About The Position

The Department of Translational Neuroscience is seeking a motivated neuroscientist with a strong track record in age-related neurodegenerative disease research. While the department has a particular focus on Parkinson's disease (PD) and other synucleinopathies, experts in Alzheimer's disease and related dementias are also encouraged to apply. The department currently comprises fifteen faculty with significant expertise in Parkinson's disease, other synucleinopathies, and Alzheimer's disease and other tauopathies. Research in the department utilizes a range of model systems, including cell, invertebrate, and rodent models. The Parkinson's team investigates alpha-synuclein biology, neuroinflammation, levodopa-induced dyskinesias, deep brain stimulation, environmental exposures, and aging as contributors to neurodegeneration. The Alzheimer's team's expertise covers tau and amyloid biology, neuroinflammation, transcriptomics and proteomics, cell and animal model development, disease biomarkers, and novel therapeutics. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain an independent, nationally competitive research program that complements the department's existing strengths. Collaboration within larger program-level projects and the mentoring and didactic instruction of graduate trainees are also key expectations. This position is located at the Grand Rapids Research Center.
