About The Position

The School of Engineering at the University of British Columbia's Okanagan campus invites applications to fill one full-time tenure-stream position within its Civil Engineering Program. Applicants will be considered for the ranks of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or Associate Professor (tenure-track or tenured), given suitable teaching and/or research expertise in water resources engineering, geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, and related fields. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2027 or a date to be mutually agreed upon. Decisions for hiring will be based upon applicants' potential and/or evidence towards excellence in teaching and research, to the benefit of Canada and the global community, as well as their fit to the School. We look to shape leaders for the future of our programs and profession. The stated positions offer a unique opportunity to contribute to the development, growth, and leadership of programs in the School of Engineering. The program integrates foundational and applied courses in engineering, with hands-on learning and immersive experiences for students.

Requirements

  • Hold a doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in a field related to Civil engineering.
  • Be registered, or be eligible to register, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia within three years of appointment.
  • For Assistant Professor: Completion of academic and/or professional qualifications, with evidence of ability and commitment in teaching and scholarly activity. Potential for excellence in instructing and supervising undergraduate and graduate students. Potential towards securing external research funding, carrying out high-impact research, and disseminating research via peer-reviewed publications and/or alternative forms of knowledge dissemination. Willingness to participate in the affairs of the School and University. Applicants who will have successfully defended their doctoral (Ph.D.) dissertation by the position start date will be considered.
  • For Associate Professor: Demonstrated success in teaching, a growing body of productive scholarly activity, and willingness to participate in the affairs of the School and University. High level of excellence in teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels as well as effective supervision and mentorship of graduate students. Evidence towards securing external research funding, carrying out high-impact research, and disseminating research via peer-reviewed publications and/or alternative forms of knowledge dissemination. For tenure consideration, must have maintained a high standard of performance and show promise of continuing to do so.
