About The Position

The University of Lynchburg, a private, regional university, is seeking applicants for a full-time faculty position in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program starting at the beginning of the 2026-2027 academic year. Salary and rank will correspond to experience and educational credentials. The DPT Program is part of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences and offers opportunities for interprofessional experiences with various health science programs. The program is located in the Graduate Health Sciences Building, with over 37,000 square feet dedicated to physical therapy instruction, service, and research. The curriculum utilizes an innovative instructional model to prepare students as generalist practitioners and future leaders in the profession. Faculty can engage in clinical practice through an onsite free clinic. The Program received initial accreditation in 2013 and is scheduled for re-review in 2028.

Requirements

For individuals with a terminal academic degree (e.g. PhD, EdD, DSc, or DHSc), at least a Master’s degree in physical therapy is required; candidates approaching completion of a terminal academic degree may also be considered
For individuals without a terminal academic degree, a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and an APTA Specialist Certification (governed by ABPTS) is required; highly qualified individuals eligible to sit for APTA Specialist Certification may also be considered
Experience teaching entry-level content to DPT students
A minimum of three years of contemporary physical therapy clinical practice
Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with colleagues
Licensed or eligible for licensure as a physical therapist in the Commonwealth of Virginia (Virginia licensure is required within one year of employment)
A scholarly agenda that contributes to teaching and/or practice
The ability and credentials to teach courses related to neuromuscular practice

Responsibilities

Teaching courses in the DPT Program
Collaborating with colleagues on curriculum development
Supervising student research projects

Applying best practices to facilitate teaching and learning processes and principles with a commitment to continuous quality improvement
Documenting student learning, interpreting outcomes, and recording grades
Assisting with student recruitment, admission, and retention
Maintaining accurate and appropriate student, instructor, course, and program documentation
Establishing and maintaining professional and ethical boundaries with students, co-workers, and others in all learning environments
Participating in University service and events
Perform other responsibilities that may be assigned by the DPT Program Director and Dean School of Medicine and Health Sciences
