About The Position

Effective September 1, 2026, the Department of Paediatrics, Temerity Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at The Hospital for Sick Children is recruiting a full-time permanent staff physician. This role is an Academic Clinician position with 70% clinical duties and 30% dedicated to research, education, and administration. The position requires specific expertise in neurogastroenterology and motility, along with experience in endoscopy. The successful candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher. The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (GHN) is a collegial group of 18 faculty members providing tertiary/quaternary-care clinical programs and maintaining a high volume of research output. The position offers a unique environment for medical science discoveries within a leading academic health science centre dedicated exclusively to children.

Requirements

  • Completed training in paediatric GHN certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent.
  • Excellent clinical abilities in general GHN.
  • Training and subspecialty expertise in paediatric neurogastroenterology and motility disorders.
  • Ability to manage manometry and other motility testing is mandatory.
  • Hold an MD, MBBS, or equivalent.
  • Certified or eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or have comparable qualifications.
  • Hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
  • Able to function proficiently in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced training and special interest in endoscopy would be advantageous.
  • Experience in aerodigestive disorders and disorders of gut-brain interaction are important.
  • Skills in advanced endoscopy would fit with the needs of the division and would be desired.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical care, including contribution to the GHN in-patient services (consult service, GHN in-patients).
  • Provide motility procedures and out-patient clinics.
  • Provide GI endoscopic procedures.
  • Engage in innovation and leadership within the division.
  • Participate in the on-call schedule.
  • Manage manometry and other motility testing.
  • Teach and mentor fellows within the GHN fellowship training program.
  • Participate in teaching in other programs.
