Northeastern University, a global research university founded in 1898, is seeking faculty candidates for tenured or tenure-track appointments at the assistant, associate, or full professor ranks within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE). This position is part of a strategic university-wide initiative focused on Physical AI, Robotics & Autonomous Systems, specifically concentrating on Intelligent Infrastructure, construction and manufacturing; adaptive robotics & digital twins. The role involves cross-college collaboration with the Khoury College of Computer Sciences, the College of Arts, Media and Design, and the College of Science, and is supported by Northeastern's Physical AI Research (PAIR) Initiative and the Institute for Experiential Robotics (IER) and Institute for Experiential AI (EAI). The position is primarily based on Northeastern University’s Boston campus. The ideal candidate will leverage advances in AI, automation, digital twins, and sensing to transform construction and construction management, innovate in infrastructure systems adaptation, operations, control, and inspection, and advance human-robot collaboration. Infrastructure systems encompass all aspects of the built environment, including dams, bridges, transportation systems, water distribution networks, and energy systems. Example areas of interest include construction automation and management, physical AI for infrastructure materials, and autonomous mobility. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the potential to sustain an interdisciplinary and translational research program, teach undergraduate and graduate classes, and exhibit active leadership in their fields.
