About The Position

Northeastern University, a global research university, is seeking faculty candidates for tenured or tenure-track appointments at the assistant, associate, or full professor ranks within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE). This position is part of a strategic university-wide initiative focused on Physical AI, Robotics & Autonomous Systems, with a specific emphasis on Intelligent Infrastructure, construction and manufacturing; adaptive robotics & digital twins. The role involves cross-college collaboration and leverages Northeastern's expertise in AI, automation, digital twins, and sensing to innovate in infrastructure systems, construction automation, and autonomous mobility. The position is based at Northeastern University’s Boston campus. Candidates are expected to demonstrate potential for sustaining a strong interdisciplinary and translational research program, teach undergraduate and graduate classes, and exhibit active leadership in their fields. Requirements

  • A Ph.D. degree, or foreign equivalent, in civil engineering, environmental engineering or a related field by the employment start date.
  • Demonstrated record of developing transformative solutions to global challenges (for Associate and Full Professor levels).
  • Sustaining a research program with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary and translational research (for Associate and Full Professor levels).
  • Teaching both undergraduate and graduate classes (for Associate and Full Professor levels).
  • Being an active, recognized leader nationally and internationally in their discipline (for Associate and Full Professor levels).
  • At least 4 years of academic or equivalent experience (e.g., industry, research) for Associate level.
  • At least 8 years or equivalent experience (e.g., industry, research) for Full Professor level.
  • Expertise, knowledge, and skills to build research, pedagogy, and curriculum in ways that reflect and enhance a commitment to fostering belonging.
