About The Position

Northeastern University is a national leader in cooperative education, where students alternate between academic study and work experiences. The Office of the Chancellor is seeking a Co-op Faculty Coordinator to work with students, with an initial focus in Bouve College of Health Sciences. This position is a full-time, non-tenure track, 12-month faculty position. The successful candidate will join a team of highly motivated, professional, experienced, and collaborative individuals who provide an outstanding cooperative education program in the health sciences and public health.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in college student development, counseling, education, psychology or a health science/public health related field is required by the appointment start date.
  • A minimum of three years work experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Comfort presenting to diverse audiences.
  • Experience working with a varied staff and/or student population.
  • Proficiency in computer/technology and database maintenance.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of cooperative education and/or experiential learning and its impact on an individual’s career development.
  • Ability to effectively engage a diverse network of global stakeholders, across time zones.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in career development and counseling of students.
  • Professional experience within the health industry.
  • Experience as a career coach (certification preferable, but not required).
  • Experience working with an international student population.
  • Teaching experience in a classroom environment.

Responsibilities

  • Educates students through their career development, advising, and coaching, developing and delivering effective teaching and coaching programs.
  • Works with students one-on-one, in workshops, and in the classroom, teaching a career education course each semester and coaching students through group and individual meetings.
  • Prepares classroom content including interviewing skills, professional behavior and communication, workplace ethics, leadership skills, self-awareness, and emotional intelligence development.
  • Maintains contact with students during their co-op experience and works with them through their post-co-op reflection.
  • Collaborates with academic faculty, administration, and the co-op community to guide students in integrating their co-op and academic experiences.
  • Shares knowledge of industry with academic faculty to integrate employment-based learning with curriculum-based learning.
  • Develops new partnerships and expands current employer programs by engaging with managers, human resources contacts, and alumni.
  • Engages in lifelong learning to develop and maintain a current understanding of the industry, employers, and positions.
  • Conducts site visits to new and existing employers, outreaches to potential new co-op employer partners, and actively participates in relevant professional organizations.
  • Engages in service to the Cooperative Education department, Bouve College of Health Sciences, and Northeastern University.
  • Makes presentations to prospective students and newly admitted students.
  • Participates on committees and task forces.
  • Serves as an advisor to student organizations.
