About The Position

Northeastern University is a national leader in cooperative education in which students alternate between academic study and work experiences. The Office of the Chancellor is seeking a Co-op Faculty Coordinator to work with students, with an initial focus on College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH). This position is a full-time, non-tenure track, 12-month faculty position. You will join a team of highly motivated, professional, collaborative individuals who provide an outstanding cooperative education program to the students of College of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in college student development, counseling, education, psychology or related industry field is required by the appointment start date.
  • A minimum of three years work experience.
  • Teaching experience in a classroom environment or comparable experience with presentation skills in a business or workshop environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and comfort presenting to diverse audiences.
  • Experience working with a varied staff and/or student population.
  • Proficiency in computer/technology and database maintenance.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of cooperative education and/or experiential learning and its impact on an individual’s career development.
  • Ability to effectively engage a diverse network of global stakeholders, across time zones.

Nice To Haves

  • An academic degree in a related profession, or experience in career development and counseling of social science and humanities students.
  • Experience as a career coach, certification preferable, but not required.
  • Professional experience in a relevant field a plus.
  • Experience working with an international student population.
  • Familiarity with and interest in emerging career-relevant technologies, including Generative AI.

Responsibilities

  • Educates students through their career development, advising, and coaching, developing and delivering effective teaching and coaching programs that enable students to be successful in today’s global business environment. This includes, but is not limited to, working with students one-on-one, in workshops and in the classroom.
  • Teaches a career education course each semester, and coaches students through group and individual meetings.
  • Prepares for classroom teaching, including interviewing skills, professional behavior and communication, workplace ethics, leadership skills, and self-awareness and emotional intelligence development.
  • Maintains contact with students while engaged in their co-op experience and works with students through their post-co-op reflection.
  • Collaborates with academic faculty, administration, and the co-op community to guide students in the integration of their co-op and academic experiences.
  • Shares knowledge of industry with academic faculty to integrate employment-based learning with curriculum-based learning.
  • Develops new partnerships and expands current employer programs by engaging with managers, human resources contacts, and alumni.
  • Engages in lifelong learning to develop and maintain a current understanding of the industry, employers, and positions.
  • Conducts site visits to new and existing employers, outreach to potential new co-op employer partners, and active participation in relevant professional organizations.
  • Engages in service to the Cooperative Education department, College of Social Sciences and Humanities, and to Northeastern University.
  • Makes presentations to prospective students and newly admitted students.
  • Participates on committees and task forces.
  • Serves as an advisor to student organizations.
