About The Position
The Eligibility Specialist strengthens Michigan families by ensuring that each person or family applying for public assistance receives the type and level of assistance for which they are eligible. The role assesses applicants’ needs, provides appropriate information, and makes referrals or contacts with people and agencies that can help meet those needs. The worker also informs families about the expectations and goals of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and encourages and guides them in efforts to become self-supporting. The position is located at Kalamazoo DHHS, 427 E. Alcott, Kalamazoo, MI 49001. It may be performed remotely or in a hybrid arrangement; however, the first six months are 100% in person. A hybrid or remote option may be available after six months.
Responsibilities
- Ensure that each person or family applying for public assistance receives the type and level of assistance for which they are eligible.
- Assess the needs of each person or family and provide appropriate information.
- Make referrals or contacts with people and agencies to help applicants meet their needs.
- Provide families with information about MDHHS expectations and goals.
- Encourage and guide families in their efforts to become self-supporting.
