About The Position

As an Asset Protection Detective at Macy’s, you will help protect company assets, reduce shortage, and support a safe, customer-focused shopping environment. You will use surveillance, investigative tools, and strong partnerships with store teams and law enforcement to identify and respond to theft, recover merchandise, and help protect customers, colleagues, and the business. Through training, observation, investigation, and de-escalation, you will help reduce loss while maintaining a safe and welcoming store environment. The role includes identifying and investigating theft and dishonest activity, supporting the apprehension of shoplifters and dishonest employees in accordance with company policies and legal requirements, recovering merchandise, and preparing accurate reports and evidence. You will partner with store colleagues, Asset Protection leaders, and law enforcement, maintain compliance with policies and legal standards, testify in court as needed, respond to alarm calls, support special assignments, and facilitate first aid when needed. You may also train colleagues on asset protection protocols. The position requires prolonged periods of standing and walking, the ability to apprehend shoplifters, and the ability to spend extended periods in enclosed surveillance areas. It may occasionally involve reaching above eye level, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and frequently lifting or moving up to 30 pounds. Full-time colleagues are typically scheduled for 30 or more hours per week. All schedules include weekend shifts; hours depend on business needs and colleague availability.

Requirements

Ability to observe, identify, and respond to suspicious activity in a retail environment.
Strong communication skills and ability to partner effectively with customers, colleagues, leaders, and law enforcement.
Ability to use sound judgment, de-escalation tools, and company procedures to support a safe environment.
Ability to handle proprietary, sensitive, and confidential information with discretion and integrity.
For jobs in New York, a current New York State Security Guard License is required.
Ability to apprehend shoplifters.
Ability to sustain long periods in enclosed surveillance areas.
Frequently lift or move up to 30 pounds.
Close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Testify in court for criminal and civil cases as needed.
Respond to alarm calls, support special assignments, and facilitate first aid for customers and colleagues when needed.
