As an Asset Protection Detective at Macy’s, you will help protect company assets, reduce shortage, and support a safe, customer-focused shopping environment. Using surveillance, investigative tools, and strong partnerships with store teams and law enforcement, you will identify and respond to theft, recover merchandise, and help protect customers, colleagues, and the business. The role combines training, observation, investigation, and de-escalation to reduce loss while maintaining a safe and welcoming store environment. You will document and support investigations, audits, and legal proceedings, help colleagues understand asset protection protocols, and respond to alarms and other assigned activities. For jobs in New York, a current New York State Security Guard License is required. The position requires prolonged periods of standing and walking around the store or department, and may occasionally involve reaching above eye level, stooping, kneeling, or crouching. It also requires the ability to apprehend shoplifters, spend long periods in enclosed surveillance areas, frequently lift or move up to 30 pounds, and perform tasks requiring close vision, color vision, and focus adjustment. Full-time colleagues are typically scheduled 30 or more hours per week. All schedules include weekend shifts, with hours dependent on business needs and colleague availability.
