The Asset Protection Associate is responsible for observing activities to detect theft, fraud, or suspicious activity, and collecting investigative evidence utilizing CCTV and observations from the sales floor. This role follows AP Directives and Company policy when making apprehensions and executes required Company investigation routines to identify and resolve theft, properly documenting all stages. The associate will conduct external interviews in accordance with local laws and Company policy with customers and contractors suspected of theft, and report suspected fraud (i.e., credit / check and refund fraud) and infractions of company policy to AP and/or Store leadership. Additionally, the role involves creating and managing records using approved Company methods for reporting apprehension, witness statements, retention of evidence, and disposition of recovered merchandise. Based on direction from Asset Protection leadership, the associate will collect evidence and/or monitor associate activity as needed regarding internal investigations and/or serve as an interview witness. The role proactively identifies potential acts of theft and fraud by observing associate/customer activity, exception reports and referrals, and investigates suspicious behavior by collecting intelligence and documenting behavior. The associate will attend court hearings as required and update appropriate files with related outcomes, maintaining a professional relationship with local law enforcement. Travel to stores as necessary is also a requirement, as is analyzing intelligence on individuals and booster groups involved in theft. The Asset Protection Associate also supports a safety culture through impressions of control, coaching, and recognition, and provides support by aiding store leadership in morning meetings to communicate current shrinkage and safety topics to associates. This includes walking the store to identify potential hazards that could result in customer or associate injury, taking initiative to correct minor hazards on the floor while reporting larger concerns or consistent issues to leadership. The role provides emergency or critical incident response, assists with incident investigations and completes associated reports, and may assist with Asset Protection audits. Associates are coached on keeping work areas and sales floor free of hazards to reduce the risk of accidents, and stores are supported in cases of critical incidents, business disruptions, natural disasters, etc. The associate must consistently meet established performance standards for the role, including but not limited to service, productivity, and attendance.
