The Assessor's Office is responsible for locating and identifying all taxable property in Alameda County, determining its taxability, and assessing it annually according to state law. The office also applies legal exemptions and provides an accurate assessment roll to the Auditor's Office. The mission is to provide timely and accurate appraisal services for fair and equitable treatment of taxpayers. With a proposed staffing level of 175.47 full-time equivalent positions, the team operates under state guidelines. The Assessment Services Manager, a single-position class, oversees the Appraisal Support and Assessee Services sections, which handle public inquiries, assessment reviews, research, correspondence, homeowner exemption claims, property tax records, and mailing of forms. This role is directly responsible for reviewing, determining, and enrolling organizational exemption claims and represents the office before the Appeals Board Hearing Officer regarding penalties for failure to file Change in Ownership Statements and denials of assessment exemptions. The incumbent reports to the Chief, Assessment Services Division.
