About The Position

Toyota’s Final Assembly Production Engineering (FAE) Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated FAE Engineer. The primary responsibility of this role is to support in development and implementation of new model preparation at North American Manufacturing Centers (NAMCs). Reporting to the FAE Manager, the person in this role will support the FAE objective to make Vehicle Manufacturing equipment best-in-industry for human safety, highest quality, and most efficient utilization of automation technology for non-value-added work reduction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Engineering or similar technical degree, or equivalent
  • 3+ years of work experience, or 3 Co-op rotations within Automotive Production Engineering
  • Training and experience creating Equipment Technical Specifications for Vendor execution
  • Experience with Toyopuc controls systems including PLC logic development, review, or troubleshooting
  • Experience with controls systems, (excluding Toyopuc) including PLC logic development, review, integration, or troubleshooting (e.g. Allen Bradley, Seimens, Omron)
  • Experience reviewing or supporting supplier controls programming to ensure efficient, standardized, and maintainable logic implementation
  • Understanding of controls integration concepts including I/O systems, safety circuits, and equipment communication/interfaces
  • Ability to travel up to 30% to all North American Manufacturing Centers (NAMCs) as well as Japan for TMC sites and equipment makers
  • Ability to work up to 30% overtime when required

  • Training and experience creating and interpreting equipment drawings from concepts to production
  • Vehicle model change experience
  • Experience improving equipment performance or uptime through controls or automation improvements
  • Experience managing a project through OP (Operating Procedure)

Responsibilities

  • Project Planning with Plant teams and Final Assembly team for upcoming model change
  • Evaluating Model change impact to vehicle processes and developing technical equipment change requirements
  • Development of new technologies and vendor base for PE (Production Engineering) and Manufacturing industry competitiveness improvement within Assembly
  • Leading equipment projects from concept to launch for Equipment and Automation technology to Assembly across the NAMCs supporting design reviews, equipment buyoffs, installations, and commissioning activities through a controls and I/O focused study to ensure equipment meets functional, safety, and performance requirements
  • Providing training and knowledge sharing to Maintenance, Production Engineering, and other stakeholders to ensure proper equipment operation and support
  • Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of equipment design, installation, and production readiness
  • Reviewing existing equipment and driving continuous improvement to enhance equipment availability, reliability, and operability
  • Close collaboration and relationship building with internal and external groups across Toyota including TMNA Final Assembly Engineering Project Leaders, NAMC’s Pilot team, Logistics, Maintenance, Engineering regional teams, PEPD, and others
