Art Center Studio Tech- Ceramics (Part-time/Seasonal)
About The Position
The Art Center Studio Tech- Ceramics is a part-time, seasonal, non-exempt position responsible for establishing and maintaining kiln-firing schedules and studio procedures in collaboration with the Recreation Specialist—Arts & Events, the Studio Tech Lead, and Art Center instructors. The role involves hands-on work with ceramics, customer service, and studio maintenance. The position runs from August 2026 to October 2026, with hours primarily in the evenings and weekends, averaging 15-20 hours per week. The pay rate is $17.00 - $19.00 per hour, depending on qualifications. The position is located at the Eden Prairie Art Center.
Requirements
- Current enrollment in an art degree or related subject and at least one year of ceramics experience required, OR at least two years of ceramics studio tech experience required.
- Previous ceramics or glass studio experience in an art or educational setting required.
- Must be able to frequently lift/carry/pull up to 35 lbs.; occasionally lift/carry/pull 35–75 lbs.
- Candidates must successfully complete and pass the City’s evaluation of the pre-employment process prior to their first day of employment, including professional reference checks, background check, and work verification.
Nice To Haves
- B.A. or B.F.A. degree in art or related subject with study in ceramics preferred.
- Studio Tech experience preferred, including some or all of the following: loading/unloading and maintaining Skutt kilns, experience in Cone 6 Oxidation firing, reclaim experience, glass kiln firing experience.
Responsibilities
- Loading and unloading kilns, recycling clay, mixing glazes and slips, glazing student work, and packaging work for pick-up.
- Providing excellent customer service to all Art Center patrons and ensuring timely turnaround for project pick-up.
- Keeping the studio clean, organized, and in safe working order by maintaining studio equipment, including kilns, wheels, slab rollers, and other tools.
- Collaborating with the Recreation Specialist—Arts & Events, the Studio Tech Lead, and Art Center instructors to establish and maintain kiln-firing schedules and studio procedures.
- Performing a variety of duties as part of their role with the City, emphasizing teamwork.
