About The Position

Bering Straits Professional Services, LLC (BSPS) is seeking a qualified Armed Security Guard for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Cincinnati, OH. This role involves enforcing security regulations, providing access control, surveillance, and responding to situations. The guard must exercise judgment and discretion in intervening or reporting incidents, requiring specialized training in security methods and techniques, and maintaining physical fitness and firearm proficiency.

Requirements

Be at least 21 years old.
Have a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Be a citizen of the United States.
Have not had a previous private investigator or security guard license revoked or denied in any state.
Have not been declared incompetent by a court because of a mental defect or illness.
Not suffer from narcotics addiction or dependence or habitual drunkenness.
Have not been convicted of a misdemeanor under the “Lautenberg Amendment” (18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(9)).
Have not been convicted of a felony in any state or territory.
Has not filed for bankruptcy or another form of documented financial distress in the past 48 months.
Have not been convicted of crimes including: Illegally using, carrying or possessing a pistol or other dangerous weapon; Making or possessing burglar's instruments; Buying or receiving stolen property; Entering a building unlawfully; Aiding an inmate's escape from prison; Distributing illicit drugs; or Any misdemeanor involving moral turpitude or for which dishonesty of character is a necessary element.
Never engaged in the private investigation or security guard business without a license.
Never transferred security guard or firearms license to an unlicensed person or subcontracted with an unlicensed person or firm.
Never employed anyone to conduct investigations or security guard business who was in violation of any prohibitions or requirements of law.
Never falsely represented that they are, or any other person is a law enforcement official, or a person licensed as an investigator or guard.
Never made any false report with respect to any matter relating to employment.
Never divulged any information obtained from or for a client without express permission.
Never knowingly accepted employment to obtain information intended for illegal purposes; or authorized or encouraged another person to engage in any of the above activities.
Must hold a Security Guard License for the applying state.
Must be literate in English to the extent of speaking, reading and understanding printed regulations, detailed written orders, training instructions and materials, and be able to compose and write reports which convey complete and accurate information which is understandable and readable.
Must have basic knowledge of computerized access control, and video monitoring systems.
Must pass drug test prior to hire and be subject to a random program that tests 25% of the workforce on a quarterly basis.
Proficient with computer applications, to include but not limited to Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Must pass all government required training to include but not limited to, bi-annual firearms qualifications, and First Aid/CPR/AED Certification (every 2 years).
Must always maintain a constant state of mental alertness.
Must be able to meet and maintain a medical surveillance program requirement, including a mandatory annual medical physical.
Must pass the Physical Efficiency Battery (PEB) if required and authorized to carry a firearm.
Must meet or exceed the 25th percentile on the Physical Efficiency Battery (PEB) components (Sit and Reach, Bench Press, 1.5 Mile Run).

Government-provided HAZWOPER awareness training is required due to the potential of response situations on CDC property.

Responsibilities

Register locations on all rounds by "swiping" government-issued cardkey/ID badge at designated cardkey readers or by "swiping" at Patrol Scan/guard tour stations.
Make routine checks of offices, laboratories, corridors, parking lots, storage sites, and other locations as appropriate for each round and tour.
Authorize deviations from established schedules when unusual conditions or circumstances occur, noting the reasoning on the guard's tour report.
Perform designated guard functions including testing, monitoring, and responding to building fire alarm and electronic security systems, closed circuit television, participation in fire evacuation, access and egress services, and other emergency evacuation plans.
Ensure the safety and protection of building personnel and property against injury, molestation, loss, or damage from preventable causes.
Protect Government property, materials, equipment, supplies, records, and data against loss, damage, unauthorized access, or unauthorized removal.
Report hazardous conditions and items in need of repair or attention.
Maintain daily reports and log entries for visitors and activities that occur at the facilities during each 24-hour period.
Prepare additional reports for incidents such as thefts, auto accidents, and parking citation issuance statistics.
Provide and maintain a high state of security in and around the buildings, and respond to emergency management situations, acts of terrorism, bomb threats, internal disorder, civilian employee demonstrations, or other criminal acts.
Notify the Visitor Control Center and, when directed, the police and fire departments in the event of an emergency or unusual occurrence.
Turn off unnecessary lights; close windows; open, close, and secure doors; and check safes, vaults, cabinets, and security doors.
Annotate and make notifications of discrepancies found.
Observe and enforce building regulations and "General Services Administration Rules and Regulations Governing Public Buildings and Grounds."
Check machinery/equipment malfunctioning when alarms, unusual noises, and odors occur.
Comply with established procedures pertaining to lost and found articles, recording recovery and attempting to return property to its owner.
Be familiar with all areas of the buildings and surrounding grounds to ensure a quick response to routine and emergency calls.
Participate in quarterly exercises at designated site locations to test responsiveness and knowledge of responsibilities in emergency situations.
Be familiar with the operation of elevators for transport of building occupants in emergencies and with the operation of emergency evacuation chairs.
Issue permanent and/or temporary identification (ID) cards/badges and perform all functions necessary to furnish completed photo identification to authorized personnel and visitors.
Provide specific ancillary services needed by programs at leased properties.
Conduct visitor center operations including issuing badges, maintaining visitor records, and operating x-ray machines and metal detectors.
Assist with traffic operations on properties to control traffic flow.
Conduct rover foot patrols, both interior and exterior, as well as motorized patrols responding to alarms, answering service calls, documenting reports, providing emergency first aid and escorts, assisting with emergency evacuations, manning vehicle checkpoints, and conducting inspections.
Perform enhanced access control procedures for CDC laboratories and special exclusion areas.
