About The Position

The Armed Security Officer will perform all necessary functions to ensure the daily safety of the Garnet Health Medical Center hospital community; including all Garnet Health Medical Center facilities, but not limited to, all patients, visitors, employees and volunteers. They will be responsible to enforce all established Garnet Health Medical Center and Security Department specific policies and procedures as to the Medical Centers protection program which includes physical and procedural security designed to safeguard personnel, prevent unauthorized access to equipment, facilities, materials, information, and documents, and to prevent theft and damage of same. At the direction of leadership may provide supervision to Security Officers.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education: Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, Security or related field required OR direct five (5) years of direct Law Enforcement/Security experience within a position of responsible charge.
  • Licensed and Registered with the Armed Security Guard Registry of New York State required.
  • Valid NYS Unrestricted (full carry) firearm license required.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s license required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Must attend hospital crisis training program within 3 months of hire or transfer and annually thereafter.
  • Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks.
  • Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment.
  • Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking.
  • Ability to lift 10 lbs.
  • Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks.
  • Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations.

  • Active shooter response training course preferred.
