About The Position

Area Tech positions maintain a clean, sanitary, and aesthetically pleasing environment for patients, visitors, and staff at UNC Hospitals. They clean and disinfect hospital areas according to prescribed procedures and standards. The role does not provide direct patient care. This is a full-time, onsite position with a day schedule and 40 standard hours per week.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions, including MSDS sheets, policies, and procedures.
• Ability to understand verbal communications.

Nice To Haves

• Housekeeping experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Clean occupied patient rooms by dusting, disinfecting, mopping, restocking, removing trash, and inspecting the rooms.
• Clean discharge rooms promptly so they are ready for incoming patients.
• Clean support and critical-care areas, including nurses’ stations, lounges, intensive care units, and isolation rooms.
• Enter information into the bed-tracking system.
• Inspect ancillary areas, patient areas, and projects.
• May serve as a team leader by planning and scheduling tasks, assigning work, training staff, managing bed tracking, and inspecting areas throughout the hospital.
• Strip, wax, dust mop, and damp mop floors; vacuum, bonnet, and extract carpets.
• Train and instruct new Area Techs in hospital policies and procedures.
