About The Position

Area Tech positions provide a clean, sanitary, and aesthetically pleasing environment for patients, visitors, and staff at UNC Hospitals. They clean and disinfect hospital areas according to prescribed procedures and standards and do not provide direct patient care. The role may include serving as a team leader who plans and schedules tasks, assigns work, trains staff, manages bed tracking, and inspects hospital areas.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions, including MSDS sheets, policies, and procedures.
• Ability to understand verbal communications.

Nice To Haves

• Housekeeping experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Clean, dust, disinfect, mop, restock, remove trash from, and inspect occupied patient rooms.
• Clean discharge rooms promptly for incoming patients.
• Clean support and critical care areas, including nurses’ stations, lounges, intensive care units, and isolation rooms.
• Enter data into the bed tracking system.
• Inspect ancillary and patient areas and projects.
• May serve as a team leader by planning and scheduling tasks, assigning work, training staff, managing bed tracking, and inspecting areas throughout the hospital.
• Strip, wax, dust mop, and damp mop floors; vacuum, bonnet, and extract carpets.
• Train and instruct new area techs in hospital policies and procedures.
