The Area Sales Manager (ASM) leads and develops a team of Regional Account Managers to drive territory growth and achieve regional sales targets. This role focuses on coaching, onboarding, and elevating team performance while identifying and executing strategic opportunities to expand engagement with eye care professionals. The ASM uses data-driven decision-making, strong relationship-building, and cross-functional collaboration to accelerate business growth. They are accountable for regional performance, fostering a high-performing team, and recruiting and retaining top talent. The role requires setting a clear vision, inspiring the team, and delivering results in a dynamic environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships across diverse accounts both virtually and in person.
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative approach; able to partner effectively with inside sales and maintain regular alignment with leadership.
  • Proven experience in outside sales, including in-person client engagement, delivering presentations, and representing the organization at industry events.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, manage multiple accounts, and effectively plan and execute field visits.
  • Proficiency with NetSuite and Salesforce preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve monthly and annual sales targets.
  • Lead and manage a team of up to 10 Regional Account Managers across the Western U.S., ensuring attainment of activity and performance goals.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to strengthen leadership capabilities, drive results, and prepare team members for advancement.
  • Contribute to the National Sales Plan using data, customer insights, prescribing trends, and market intelligence.
  • Actively engage in field rides, territory planning, alignment efforts, industry conferences, KOL engagement, and internal development initiatives.
  • Identify and communicate regional trends, opportunities, and challenges, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships and provide leadership support on key accounts and inquiries.
  • Foster a culture of accountability across the region and in all interactions.
  • Build and sustain productive, professional relationships with key stakeholders in assigned accounts.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing Regional Account Managers.
