About The Position

The Area Leader is responsible for overall team member engagement within their span of care. The role drives recognition, feedback and coaching, performance management, training and development, and succession planning. The Area Leader directs Leads and Team Leaders and is accountable for area operations and financial results, including shrink, productivity, safety, scheduling and forecasting staffing needs, and resolving team member and customer conflicts. The position identifies and implements process improvements and serves as a steward of the Meijer culture.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
At least 4 years of retail, grocery, or customer service experience.
Passion for providing industry-leading service.
Ability to communicate clear and precise direction to team members.
Ability to analyze financial and statistical information and use it to make informed decisions.
Ability to lead an organization that practices working safely at all times.
Proactive and creative thinking applied to the business.
Thorough understanding of seasonal and diverse merchandising to meet customer and community needs and gain sales and market share.
Strong business acumen.
Innovative attitude to help Meijer set the industry standard.
Commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where team members and vendors feel valued and supported.

Responsibilities

Engage with team members to ensure appropriate onboarding, training, development, coaching, and feedback.
Identify talent and hold career discussions to support store staffing and a diversified talent pipeline for team member and leadership roles.
Have candid discussions with team members to uphold Meijer standards and support their growth within the organization.
Oversee execution of corporate plans and manage services and products to maximize sales and productivity.
Own area budget line items in the P&L and maintain accountability for area operations and financial results.
Drive safety, compliance, and overall condition management throughout the store; follow store compliance procedures.
Ensure Team Leaders and Leads provide guidance, assign daily work, and address team member training needs.
Identify and implement process improvements and serve as a steward of Meijer culture.
Perform other duties as assigned or required.
