About The Position

Under the general direction of the Housing Director, the Area Coordinator is responsible and assigned to work the assigned shift while maintaining a safe, secure, and hazard-free residential environment for the students, authorized guests, and staff, by complying with departmental and IAIA guidelines, procedures, regulations, and policies. Support the mission of IAIA.

Requirements

  • An equivalent combination of a High School Diploma or GED and three years of comparable work experience as a team lead and/or youth supervisor.
  • Must be able and available to work the evening or night shift and weekends.
  • Must have a satisfactory criminal background and driving record.
  • Knowledge of and/or background of basic principles and techniques of conflict resolution.
  • Must be able and willing to address and resolve conflicts, disagreements, and housing violations in a constructive and professional manner.
  • Must be able and willing to handle student misconduct when it does occur; this is a material component of the Area Coordinator position.
  • Knowledge of basic counseling skills and crisis management response.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, in order to collect, exchange, and provide information in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Must be able to successfully complete assigned duties within the required timeframe.
  • Knowledge of appropriate campus resources.
  • Must be able to interact with students, approved guests, staff, and faculty in an appropriate and respectful manner.
  • Ability to interact and successfully work with college students as related to job duties.
  • Must have a clean driving record in order to be bondable to drive a government vehicle.
  • Willingness to understand and demonstrate respect and sensitivity to American Indian Cultures and Alaskan Native Cultures is essential.
  • Must adhere to appropriate standards of conduct and ethics including: confidentiality, non-fraternization with students, follows directives, exhibit ability to adapt to changing work environment, treat others at all times with dignity and respect, exhibit honesty and integrity at all times, engage in proactive problem solving, complete job duties as required, refrain from engaging in inappropriate discussions, attend and participate in meetings as required, comply with all IAIA policies, procedures, practices, and guidelines, ability to take direction and complete job duties in a timely manner, demonstrate a courteous and professional presence and appearance at all times.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, begin projects and complete projects independently in a timely manner, and initiate and complete projects as needed.
  • Must have a current and valid drivers’ license in order to be bondable to drive an IAIA vehicle.
  • Ability to complete other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Report to work on time, for assigned shift (evening or night) to ensure there is security and safety oversight of students and student housing areas.
  • Ensure that students living in student housing comply with all Student Housing and IAIA guidelines, procedures, regulations, and/or policies.
  • Respond effectively and appropriately to all violations of IAIA policy by residents and take appropriate action.
  • Ensure that a hazard-free environment is maintained for the welfare and safety of the IAIA housing population (students, authorized guests, and staff).
  • Ensure that the common areas, kitchens, halls, laundry rooms, and office areas are clean, safe, and secure at all times.
  • Maintain and update files relevant to housing students, as assigned and/or required.
  • Transport students and/or authorized personnel as required using a company vehicle.
  • Identify, document, and submit work orders for necessary maintenance and items that require repair.
  • Assist in student activities and events as needed.
  • Demonstrate flexibility regarding work hours and be available in case of changes in shift schedule.
  • Demonstrate willingness and physical ability to lift/maneuver items (e.g. furniture) so as to assist with cleaning Residence Hall rooms and Family Housing apartments/casitas as needed.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to assist with emergencies as needed.
  • May be assigned other duties as needed.
