About The Position

The Residence Life Area Coordinator is responsible for fostering a safe, supportive, and engaging residential community for first-year students. This role oversees residence hall operations, supervises Resident Assistants, responds to student concerns and emergencies, administers student conduct processes, and develops programs that promote student engagement, academic success, personal development, and community involvement. The Area Coordinator serves as a primary resource for residents, parents, and campus partners, while ensuring effective facility management, customer service, crisis response, and on-call coverage. This position plays a key leadership role in building community, supporting student success, and enhancing the overall residential experience. This position involves day-time office responsibilities as well as evening and weekend activities. This is a permanent, full-time, 12-month, live-in position.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Interacts regularly with resident students.
  • Establishes and maintains communication and rapport with students living in assigned residence halls and apartments through individual contacts, meetings and discussions.
  • Works with the Resident Assistants to assess student needs and interests; anticipates and promotes educational, social, recreational and service programs.
  • Develops a collaborative relationship with members of the Residence Life staff and the University community.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with all campus personnel, departments and offices.
  • Advises the University's Resident Hall Association (RHA) for student residents.
  • Maintains a lead role in conjunction with the Director of Residence Life in the VILLAGEs program.
  • Maintains a lead role, in conjunction with Campus Safety, in responding to incidents and emergencies quickly, effectively and efficiently.
  • Responds, if available, even when not on-call/duty to extreme emergencies, to incidents such as those involving many participants, major disruptions, etc.
  • Provides 24-hour, on call duty coverage for all housing facilities on rotating basis with three other professional staff members (an average of one week of on call responsibility per month).
  • Administers a discipline system in assigned halls in accordance with the Code of Student Conduct that encourages responsible student behavior.
  • Handles infractions including, but not limited to visitation, quiet hours, disruptive behavior and alcohol violations.
  • Investigates reports of policy violation, damage, thefts, etc.
  • Follow up with appropriate staff and students to determine accuracy.
  • Meets with students and serve as disciplinary officer / adjudicator for students referred for disciplinary matters.
  • Enacts appropriate disciplinary sanctions to effectively resolve disciplinary problems in consultation with the Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students.
  • Maintains complete, accurate and updated disciplinary records.
  • Maintains correspondence related to resident student conduct; collects fines and tracks student follow-up on disciplinary sanctions.
  • Supervises undergraduate students working as Resident Assistants in assigned residence halls.
  • Evaluates the performance of assigned staff.
  • Coordinates Resident Assistant training program in collaboration with other Residence Life professional staff member.
  • Maintains regular office hours.
  • Holds responsibility of oversight for staff, procedures and facilities for Bonaventure and Marian Halls.
  • Coordinates mid-year residence hall assignments and move-in.
  • Participates in the overall planning of the residence hall and apartment system and provides input in the development of policy and procedures.
  • Maintains complete, accurate and updated records.
  • Prepares monthly report of student concerns and responses.
  • Assists in recruiting, selecting, and training of staff.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of concerns, hazards, unattractive areas, etc. in the residence halls and/or apartments, and advances in technology, housing, programming, etc. to advance the living experience.
  • Other duties as assigned.
