Architectural Engineer, Structural Systems

Hadrian Automation•Torrance, CA
•$106,000 - $181,000•Hybrid

About The Position

In this role, you’ll translate the structural needs of our production equipment into real, permitted, built facilities. A large part of your work will be designing the foundations – concrete slab, equipment foundations, piles, and steel support structures – that carry our heavy and precision machinery. You’ll work directly with equipment OEMs to intake loads, anchoring, vibration, and tolerance requirements and turn them into engineered foundation drawings. You’ll be Hadrian’s primary point of contact with our external Architect and General Contractor partners and shape the early structural and foundation requirements driven by equipment selection and operational flow, inform site selection, and lead structural schematic design through to construction. This is a role for someone who makes forward progress through ambiguity, takes smart calculated risks, and treats schedule and budget as real design constraints. Ultimately, you’ll partner closely with engineering to intake requirements and turn them into a built reality on schedule and on budget.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering, Civil or Structural Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional licensure (PE preferred), or clear progress toward it; SE license a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in structural or building-systems design.
  • Experience designing for new manufacturing or production facilities, ideally in environments with engineering and production complexity comparable to Hadrian’s.
  • Experience designing concrete foundations and equipment foundations – slab-on-grade, pads, pedestals, and anchorage for heavy or precision equipment.
  • Working knowledge of structural codes and standards (e.g., IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC 360) and foundation design for industrial facilities.
  • Proficiency with Procore or an equivalent construction management platform.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in highly regulated or high-consequence industries (nuclear, energy, aerospace, defense, advanced manufacturing).
  • Direct experience coordinating with equipment OEMs to design and qualify equipment installations against load, anchoring, and tolerance requirements.
  • Familiarity with foundations for dynamic equipment (e.g., ACI 351.3R) and vibration-isolation design for rotating/reciprocating or vibration-sensitive machinery.
  • Experience designing for crane and overhead material-handling loads (e.g., AISC Design Guide 7, CMAA).
  • Proficiency with structural analysis and modeling software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD, RISA) and Revit/AutoCAD.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for interfacing with diverse engineering disciplines, stakeholders, and external partners to foster collaborative problem-solving.
  • Practical knowledge of field installation methods, means, and materials, including troubleshooting real-world constructability issues and adapting designs for on-site efficiency.
  • Exposure to design-for-construction or design-for-operations efforts.
  • Experience working on expedited timelines or in fast-paced industries.

Responsibilities

  • Intake structural requirements from engineering, geotechnical surveys, and OEM equipment vendors. Lead the development of the equipment foundations structural scope from initial concept evaluations through completion of construction drawings for permitting and on-site execution.
  • Design equipment foundations, concrete slabs, and steel support pedestals for heavy and precision manufacturing equipment. Work directly with equipment OEMs to capture load, anchoring, vibration, and tolerance requirements. Engineer anchor bolt and embed details that connect equipment and steel framing to concrete.
  • Strategically identify critical path items relating to structural design, procurement, and construction phases including long-lead concrete, rebar, and structural steel. Manage the critical path and any blockers. Apply first-principles thinking to recover lost time and protect delivery milestones.
  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing, construction, facilities, geotechnical, and cross-disciplinary teams to address end-user requirements, resolve integration challenges, and coordinate structural systems against architectural, mechanical, and electrical designs so everything stays compatible with the design intent.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans for employees
  • 401k
  • Relocation support may be provided for certain situations, based on business need.
  • Flexible vacation policy
  • Equity
