About The Position

LaSalle College Vancouver is seeking an ideal candidate for a Sessional Faculty position in Architectural Building Technology. The successful candidate will thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, possess a strong understanding of Architectural Building Technology students, and be able to effectively engage, mentor, and communicate with learners. This role involves teaching, administrative duties, and community engagement, contributing to the growth and quality of the program. The position reports to the Program Director of Art and Design.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Architecture, Architectural Science, Building Technology, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Sustainable Building Design, Architectural Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related and progressively responsible industry and/or post-secondary teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of architectural design principles, construction methods, building systems, building science, sustainability, construction documentation, and applicable building codes.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard software such as Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Navisworks, Bluebeam, BIM platforms, and Microsoft Office 365.
  • Understanding of current industry trends, emerging technologies, digital construction workflows, and sustainable building practices.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills, including the ability to build successful relationships with faculty team, students, staff and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, combined with critical thinking.
  • Demonstrated time management, project management and detail-orientated organizational skills.
  • Action and results oriented with the ability to work effectively under pressure to meet frequently occurring deadlines.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate others to meet/exceed deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous teaching experience in higher education and/or formal instructor training is preferred.
  • Professional registration, certification, or membership with a recognized professional association is considered an asset.
  • International academic credentials will only be accepted if accompanied by a WES assessment or an equivalent credential evaluation. Any costs associated with obtaining this assessment are the responsibility of the candidate, and the evaluation must be completed prior to the official hiring date.

Responsibilities

  • Advise and support students in achieving their educational and career goals.
  • Efficiently complete college administrative tasks (e.g., attendance, grade submissions, academic integrity documentation, grade change requests, field trip forms, and other administrative requirements).
  • Facilitate approved academic accommodations by working collaboratively with Academic Advisors and Student Services to support students with diverse learning needs.
  • Display a commitment to the timely and accurate completion of all administrative responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate collegiality and actively engage with the college community.
  • Participate in classroom observation activities as part of the LCV Faculty Development Review process and implement feedback received.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, forums, program reviews, and quality assurance activities.
  • Engage meaningfully with students, faculty, administration, and industry stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the continued growth and reputation of the Architectural Building Technology program.
  • Teach a minimum of one and a maximum of five sections each term, as assigned by the Program Director of Architectural Building Technology and/or the Chief Academic Officer.
  • Demonstrate a passion for student-centred teaching and displaying flexibility in teaching style while effectively planning and preparing for classes.
  • Adhere to the scheduled class times for teaching classes, maintain office hours and attend meetings at the designated times. Promptly informing the Program Director of any necessary changes and obtaining approval for any alterations in class times or locations.
  • Establish a student-centred classroom environment and engaging students in the learning process.
  • Manage the learning environment through administering the college’s academic and attendance policies. (e.g. Take and submit attendance for every class, assign grades and maintain course/student records by established deadlines).
  • Communicate effectively with students and respond to students in a timely manner. (e.g. via LCV internal communication system, email, or online conferencing and messaging tools).
  • Schedule, supervise, debrief, and evaluate students in clinical, internship, observation, field experience, and similar work integrated learning settings as appropriate for the course or program. (As applicable to Internship coordinator).
  • Display a commit to pursuing teaching excellence.
  • Design, develop and deliver course curriculum (e.g. course outline, assignments and rubrics, course handouts, lectures, labs, studios, and presentations) and instructional plans which includes scaffold learning and sparks curiosity, engagement and promotes research practices among students.
  • Facilitate student learning, provide effective instruction, and feedback, and perform evaluations of student learning for all assigned classes, using each course's standard course outline as a guide and adhering to a student-centered approach.
  • Work with other faculty and administrators in developing program curriculum, standards and policies, including reviewing and participating in textbook selection process where appropriate.
  • Support the compliance requirements for regulatory bodies, e.g. DQAB, PTIB.
  • Display a commit to adhere to curriculum and quality assurance best practices.
  • Participate fully in the Faculty Development Review process.
  • Remain current in academic or program discipline, through any number of activities: professional membership in associations, conference attendance, industry practices, maintaining licensure or certification.
  • Engage in continuing education through course work, workshops, MOOCs, etc. as per individual development plan.
  • Participate in LCV sponsored professional development activities and events.
  • Display a commit to continuous learning and a growth mindset.
  • Maintain a presence on campus with regular office hours for student support and offer support as directed by the Program Director or the Chief Academic Officer.
  • Relate and apply professional experience to enhance learning though incorporating industry perspectives and relevant industry trends into courses.
  • Contribute to a respectful and supportive workplace environment based on the principles of inclusion, equity and diversity.
