About The Position

LaSalle College Vancouver is seeking a Jewellery Design Instructor (Sessional Faculty) to join their Art and Design department. This role involves teaching, curriculum development, administrative duties, and community engagement within a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for jewellery design, the ability to share knowledge effectively, and inspire students to excel. The position reports to the Program Director of Art and Design.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in design or another related discipline (i.e. Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Jewellery Design etc.)
  • Minimum of 3 years related and increasingly responsible experience in Academics or industry
  • Excellent computer literacy skills and proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud especially Adobe Photoshop, illustrator & InDesign and Microsoft Office 365
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills, including the ability to build successful relationships with faculty team, students, staff and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, combined with critical thinking
  • Demonstrated time management, project management and detail-orientated organizational skills
  • Action and results oriented with the ability to work effectively under pressure to meet frequently occurring deadlines
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate others to meet/exceed deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to act effectively as a member of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a minimum of one and a maximum of five sections each term, as assigned.
  • Design, develop and deliver course curriculum, including course outlines, assignments, rubrics, handouts, lectures, labs, studios, and presentations.
  • Facilitate student learning, provide effective instruction and feedback, and perform evaluations of student learning.
  • Work with other faculty and administrators in developing program curriculum, standards and policies.
  • Support compliance requirements for regulatory bodies.
  • Participate fully in the Faculty Development Review process.
  • Remain current in academic or program discipline through professional activities.
  • Engage in continuing education.
  • Participate in LCV sponsored professional development activities and events.
  • Maintain a presence on campus with regular office hours for student support.
  • Relate and apply professional experience to enhance learning by incorporating industry perspectives and relevant industry trends into courses.
  • Contribute to a respectful and supportive workplace environment based on the principles of inclusion, equity and diversity.
  • Demonstrates a sensitivity and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, cultural, and religious background of students.
  • Enhance the student learning experience and provides students with mentorship.
  • Advise and support students to achieve their educational goals.
  • Efficiently completing college administrative tasks (e.g. Attendance, submitting grades and administrative forms: Academic integrity, Grade change, Field trip forms etc.).
  • Facilitate approved academic accommodations by working with Academic Advisors in Student Services to accommodate students with special needs.

  • Engage in classroom-observation activities and implement feedback received.

  • Promptly informing the Program Director of any necessary changes and obtaining approval for any alterations in class times or locations.
  • Establish a student-centred classroom environment and engaging students in the learning process.
  • Manage the learning environment through administering the college’s academic and attendance policies.
  • Communicate effectively with students and respond to students in a timely manner.
  • Schedule, supervise, debrief, and evaluate students in clinical, internship, observation, field experience, and similar work integrated learning settings as appropriate for the course or program.
