About The Position

Arcadis is seeking entry-level Archaeologists for a project-based, on-call, part-time-as-needed (PTAN) position to support environmental planning projects, particularly linear infrastructure projects, within Ohio and surrounding states. This role involves conducting archaeological field work at various investigation levels, from site identification to data recovery and monitoring. Responsibilities include shovel testing, pedestrian surveys, excavation, and site documentation. The position is currently part-time as needed and requires collaboration with the Arcadis cultural resources team. Arcadis offers a flexible working environment and a hybrid work structure, but this role is field-based, requiring remote work at project sites as needed. Travel to various project sites, including overnight stays, is necessary, with field work expectations around 90-100%.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in anthropology/archaeology
1-2 years of experience in cultural resources management
Demonstrated practical field experience within Ohio or surrounding states
Working knowledge of GPS systems and the collection of field data

Responsibilities

Conduct archaeological field work for multiple projects at all levels of investigation, from site identification to data recovery, and archaeological monitoring.
Perform shovel testing, pedestrian surveys, excavation, and site documentation.
Apply technical knowledge to support archaeological services across sectors including linear utilities, oil and gas, mining, rail and transit, and renewable energies.
Work as a key cultural resources team member within an interdisciplinary environmental team.
Conduct archaeological fieldwork requiring a working knowledge of GPS systems.
Walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, carrying supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
Work in the field under a range of conditions, including rugged and unfamiliar terrain, remote locations, and extreme temperatures.
