Arborist Climber Trainee
About The Position
As an Arborist Climber Trainee, you will be an integral member of a tree care crew, working alongside arborists and gaining practical field experience in scientific tree and shrub care on commercial and residential properties. This entry-level opportunity provides hands-on, on-the-job training to develop a career in arboriculture. The role involves learning to perform tree care safely, maintaining and operating equipment, following work zone and company safety procedures, assisting crew members on the ground and aloft, and helping with vehicle duties. The position is based in Sheffield, Massachusetts.
Requirements
- Passion for nature, the environment, and the outdoors.
- Interest in working outdoors year-round in all weather conditions.
- Valid driver's license.
- Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to work on a multidisciplinary team.
Nice To Haves
- Prior tree care, landscaping, forestry, turf care, or horticulture experience; preferred but not required.
- Degree in Arboriculture, Forestry, Horticulture, Turfgrass, Environmental Science, Plant Science, Outdoor Recreation, Agriculture, or a related field; preferred but not required.
Responsibilities
- Learn through on-the-job training to safely perform arboriculture work, including tree climbing, pruning, rigging, cabling and bracing, hazardous tree removal, and tree identification.
- Properly maintain and operate hand tools, chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts.
- Implement work zone safety procedures.
- Assist Arborist Climbers and Arborist Crew Leaders on the ground and aloft.
- Assist with driving, backing, dumping, and parking duties.
- Learn, understand, and adhere to all safety rules and company safety policies.
