Arboriculture Internship
About The Position
The Arboriculture Intern works alongside a team of arborists to gain practical field experience in scientific tree and shrub care on commercial and residential properties. The internship offers hands-on training in arboriculture and typically lasts 8–12 weeks, with flexible start and end dates based on availability. Internships generally start in May and are 40 hours per week. The role provides opportunities to learn tree and shrub care practices, equipment operation and maintenance, integrated pest management, and client-related work. Interns also participate in safety and training meetings and build professional relationships.
Requirements
- Passion for nature, the environment, and the outdoors.
- Pursuing a degree in Arboriculture, Forestry, Turfgrass, Horticulture, Environmental Science, Plant Science, Outdoor Recreation, Agriculture, or a related field.
- Interest in working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to work on a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
- Learn and safely perform arboriculture work, including pruning, rigging, cabling and bracing, root collar excavations, and removals.
- Properly maintain and operate hand tools, chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts.
- Learn about integrated pest management programs, including property inspections, tree identification, insect and disease identification and management, and soil sampling.
- Perform record-keeping and report writing, and participate in client relations.
- Participate in safety and training meetings.
- Develop professional relationships and friendships.
