About The Position

The purpose of this position is to coordinate aquatics classes and activities for all age groups, interests, and abilities under the general supervision of the Aquatics Manager. This position also serves as the primary HR liaison for new employees and recruiting efforts, and supports other divisions as necessary. This position will be responsible for coordinating and conducting operational activities for the Aquatics Division, including developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating aquatics classes, monitoring day-to-day operations and events, and managing registration and transactions. It also involves coordinating and conducting training classes for lifeguard candidates, creating class ideas, recruiting instructors, assisting with schedules and fees, preparing program information, registering participants, and evaluating instructors and programs. The role includes preparing attendance and evaluation reports, assisting with marketing and advertising materials, monitoring activities, answering phones, managing customer requests, and providing supervisory support in the absence of the Aquatics Manager. Additionally, this position is responsible for maintaining water quality in pools, serving as the primary HR liaison for assigned divisions, coordinating hiring processes, onboarding new employees, processing personnel actions, and supporting facility maintenance, including monitoring equipment use, ordering supplies, and investigating citizen complaints. Other duties include contacting local businesses for program support, representing the City at meetings, supporting special events, assisting with budget preparation, processing open records requests, making presentations, and serving on committees.

Requirements

  • Current Lifeguard certification is required.
  • Water Safety Instructor certification is required or must be able to obtain within three months of employment.
  • A Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certificate is required or must be able to obtain within three months.
  • Lifeguard Instructor certification is required or must be able to obtain within six months.
  • Advanced knowledge and skill in performing water rescue techniques, first aid, and CPR on all persons.
  • Knowledge of aquatic programming and pool codes
  • Advanced knowledge and skills in planning and conducting lifeguard training classes.
  • Advanced ability to swim and perform rescue operations.
  • Ability to lift and carry persons while performing rescue operations.
  • Ability to stand, bend, squat, kneel, push, pull, and stoop while performing duties at the aquatics center.
  • Ability to perform duties required or necessary for lifeguarding.
  • Advanced skill in interpersonal communication and conflict resolution.
  • Advanced skill in the de-escalation of sensitive or aggressive customer/vendor/citizen issues.
  • Advanced skill in analyzing data, identifying trends and creating actionable data strategies.
  • Strong project management skills and experience with project management methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively coordinates and conducts operational activities for the Aquatics Division.
  • Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates aquatics classes for all age groups, interests, and abilities.
  • Monitors day-to-day operations and events, including class and membership registration and monetary transactions.
  • Coordinates and conducts training classes for lifeguard candidates.
  • Helps coordinate and implement weekly training sessions.
  • Creates and formulates class ideas; recruits and assists in hiring class instructors; assists in class schedules and fees; prepares program information for brochure publication and registration; registers and enrolls participants; informs participants of class changes, cancellations, and refunds; evaluates class instructors and class programs.
  • Prepares and maintains attendance reports daily, weekly, and monthly for classes; prepares and maintains enrollment and class program evaluations quarterly.
  • Assist the Aquatics Manager in marketing and advertising materials for the Aquatics Center programs and events.
  • Monitor activities at the Aquatics Center, answering phones, manage customer requests, and assist guests.
  • Provides supervisory support for the staff in the absence of the Aquatics Manager, as assigned or needed.
  • Maintains water quality in indoor and outdoor pools by monitoring chemical levels daily, adjusting chemical levels as needed, and performing routine maintenance of pumps, filter, chemical feeders and other pool components.
  • Serves as the primary HR liaison for the Recreation, Aquatics and Special Events divisions.
  • Serves as the primary initiator and coordinator for all hiring-related requisitions, offers, job postings and other related functions, to include submission of items in the NEOGOV system.
  • Coordinates all new-employee onboarding paperwork, as necessary.
  • Coordinates with Human Resources on new hire orientation and appointments.
  • Processes all personnel actions for assigned divisions.
  • Supports the ongoing operational maintenance of assigned facilities.
  • Monitors the use of equipment and facilities; participates in cleaning and maintaining equipment; orders supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Maintains records of training, equipment, and inventory for assigned divisions.
  • Investigates and resolves citizen complaints concerning classes, instructors, or the facility.
  • Contacts local businesses, individuals, and community organizations for program support and participation.
  • Represents the City of Farmers Branch in a professional manner at local, regional, and state training and meetings.
  • Provides support for all division special events as assigned or needed.
  • Assists with Aquatics Division budget preparation and implementation.
  • Performs other related duties including processing open records requests; making presentations to Boards; and serving on assigned committees.
  • Other functions not specifically designated within the scope of essential functions. These extra functions will be temporary in nature and as the business necessity dictates.
