About The Position

The Aquatics Coordinator assists in overseeing the daily operation of the Aquatics Department and provides a safe aquatic environment for staff and patrons both in and around the pool. This posting is for multiple positions at various branches in Forsyth County, Jerry Long Family YMCA and Kernersville Family YMCA. Essential duties and responsibilities include lifeguarding and teaching swim lessons for 20 hours each week. The other 20 hours will include day-to-day operations, risk management, fiscal responsibility, and marketing strategy development. The role involves supervising part-time and non-exempt employees and volunteers within the Aquatics Department, carrying out responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws. This includes interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, directing work, reviewing timesheets, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, monitoring certifications, and resolving complaints.

Requirements

Minimum of 21 years old
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to communicate with people in a positive but firm manner
Possess mature judgment, sound decision-making
Team player capable of developing and maintaining relationships with all participants, staff, and the general public
Pursues continual personal and professional development
Maintains knowledge of the latest research and developments in aquatics
Basic Life Support, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen certifications
YMCA lifeguard or equivalent (YMCA lifeguard required within 30 days of employment)
Swim Lesson: YSL V6 Instructor certification
Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility
Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness
See all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility
Meet strength and lifting requirements
Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear

Nice To Haves

YMCA or other aquatic management experience preferred
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is preferred (examples include sports management, exercise science, etc.)
CPO preferred
Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff training
Working with Program Volunteers training
Bloodborne Pathogens training
Child Abuse Prevention and Reporting Awareness training
Other required training

Responsibilities

Assist in directly supervising aquatic staff including lifeguards, swim Instructors and water fitness instructors
Identify staffing and training needs; conduct interviews, train, coach and evaluate staff
Provide in-service training for skill practice, customer service, and safety procedures on a monthly/bi-monthly schedule
Assist in creating staff schedules
Organize and conduct ASHI courses for internal and external customers
Ensure that all aquatic staff are up to date on all required certifications, at all times
Maintain branch ASHI certifications- update new certifications as well as identifying those who are coming up to expire
Maintain the upkeep of all first aid kits and jump bags to ensure they are stocked and filled
Inventory back-stock and assist the Aquatics Director in ordering new supplies as needed/budgeted
Assist in monitoring revenues and expenditures for the Aquatics Department to assure sound fiscal control
Ensure programs are operating within established budgets and identify and perform cost control activities
Review and maintain payroll
Work with the Supervisor/Senior Leadership Team to handle employee relations and discipline, with documentation, involving aquatics staff and patrons
Develop marketing strategy and campaign material for Aquatics including articles, brochures, postcards, program guide entries, audience identification, etc.
Utilize excellent customer service skills, establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, members, vendors, and the community
Work as a water fitness instructor, lifeguard or swim instructor as needed
Provide leadership and direction in the development of short and long range strategic plans
Communicate effectively with staff, vendors, and members
Answer all phone calls promptly
Support and enhance the quality standards of the Aquatic Department as specified by the Aquatic AOC
Participate in fundraising events for the branch and Aquatics Department such as United Way and Annual Impact Fund
Exemplify the YMCA mission and YMCA character development
Assist with special events, both branch and association-wide
Serve as Manager On Duty when needed
Create WPRs for employees
