About The Position

Under general supervision, performs skilled, semi-skilled, and routine tasks in the operation, repair, and maintenance of the Borough’s two outdoor swimming pool complexes. Responsibilities include water quality systems, water chemistry, mechanical and plumbing maintenance, site amenities, safety equipment, grounds, building and masonry repair, and custodial upkeep. Operates, maintains, and repairs pool pumps, filters, controllers, and chemical feeders; develops procedures and inspection schedules; and oversees contractor work as needed. When not actively working at pool facilities and throughout the off-season assists the parks maintenance crew with a variety of year-round maintenance tasks. This includes mowing and landscaping, playground inspection and repair, trash and debris removal, cleaning facilities, assisting with park projects and renovations, and supporting community events. The position contributes to overall care and operation of all Borough parks, recreation facilities, and athletic fields.

Requirements

  • Combination of experience, education, and training that demonstrates required knowledge and abilities.
  • Three to five years of paid experience in aquatic or commercial pool maintenance or park facility maintenance required.
  • Demonstrated safety record required.
  • Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License required.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Pesticide Certification (Categories 23 & 24) preferred.
  • Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Open aquatic facilities each spring and close them in the fall, including de-winterizing pools, buildings, and related equipment.
  • Perform pool and wading pool maintenance, repair, and inspection of mechanical and chemical systems.
  • Maintain proper water chemistry and filtration per Health Department standards; calibrate and test systems regularly.
  • Oversee contractors and assist with bid solicitation for aquatic and park improvement projects.
  • Prioritize and document work requests; respond to service calls and make corrective repairs.
  • Inspect, maintain, and recommend purchases for pumps, motors, slides, diving boards, playground equipment, and park amenities.
  • Maintain pool and park grounds, landscaping, and structures year-round.
  • Operate and maintain equipment such as trucks, mowers, blowers, plows, loaders, chainsaws, and small engines safely.
  • Conduct playground inspections and maintenance per safety standards.
  • Perform trash collection, graffiti removal, and custodial cleaning of facilities and restrooms.
  • Assist with seasonal park projects, including field preparation, construction, repairs, and installation of furnishings.
  • Support special events and department programs with setup, cleanup, lighting, sound, and equipment transport.
  • Maintain maintenance vehicles and tools; sharpen and replace mower blades; perform preventive servicing.
  • Participate in safety programs and maintain chemical and equipment safety documentation (MSDS).
  • Interact with the public professionally; assist volunteers, contractors, and community groups.
  • Purchase minor materials and supplies; maintain inventory and ensure proper care of department equipment.
