The Oregon Department of Corrections is seeking a dedicated Facility Maintenance Specialist to join our team at Columbia River Correctional Institution. About the Job – Your Role In this role you will be responsible for coordinating, instructing, and training Adults in Custody (AICs) in the operation, maintenance, and repair of facility systems, equipment, and building structures within a correctional environment. You will perform journey-level maintenance and repair work across multiple trades while leading AIC work crews in both skilled and semi-skilled tasks. Work includes maintaining physical plant systems, troubleshooting equipment issues, and ensuring buildings and infrastructure remain safe, functional, and compliant with established standards. As the Facility Maintenance Specialist you will provide hands-on instruction, assign and monitor work, and ensure tasks are completed efficiently and safely. This position requires strong technical knowledge across building systems and the ability to communicate expectations clearly while maintaining accountability in a structured environment. You will play a key part in supporting facility operations while also contributing to skill development for AIC workers through practical, supervised work experience. This position is represented by American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of: a) general building maintenance; b) carpentry; c) electrical; d) mechanical; e) painting; or f) HVAC experience.
  • A journeyman's license/card in any of the above trades will substitute for this experience.
  • Be sure a copy of your journeyman's license/card is attached to your application form.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of safety practices, building systems, and maintenance procedures
