About The Position

An Aquatic Center Leader plans, promotes, oversees and conducts aquatic programs at a community aquatic center. Work of this class involves leading part-time pool staff but does not perform full supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
  • Three (3) years of experience in aquatics recreational activities including teaching swimming lessons.
  • Hold and maintain the following certificates issued by the American Red Cross: Lifeguard Certificate, Lifeguard Instructor Certificate, Water Safety Instructor Certificate, Certified Pool Operator.
  • Knowledge of the techniques of designing, planning and promoting aquatic activities.
  • Knowledge of water hazards, lifesaving techniques and equipment.
  • Knowledge of first aid and safety instructions.
  • Knowledge of the use and care of recreational equipment.
  • Ability to analyze community and group aquatic needs.
  • Ability to select and adapt programs to meet community and group needs.
  • Ability to work effectively with large groups of people.

  • Plan and organize an aquatics recreation activity.
