About The Position

Daimler Truck North America (DTNA), a leading company in the North American commercial vehicle market, is offering an Apprenticeship Program for a Maintenance Mechanic in Gastonia, NC. This program is designed for highly motivated individuals to join a worldwide network of over 250,000 employees. Apprentices will receive comprehensive hands-on training from a certified Journeyman, covering the repair of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment, as well as the maintenance of various machine tools (e.g., CNC Machining Centers, Punches, Shears, Press Brakes, Punch Presses), material handling equipment, and auxiliary plant equipment (e.g., HVAC, air compressors, electrical, lighting). The program also includes formal classroom training in maintenance-related skills. All educational requirements must be completed within a four-year, 8000-hour apprenticeship period. Upon successful completion of the program, candidates will advance to the Journeyman’s pay rate of a Grade ST-C. Requirements

  • Ability to learn and apply all the essential functions of the job
  • Complete a 2000-hour probationary period
  • Apply to Cleveland Community College
  • Contact Sharon Nivens at 704-669-4243 to reserve a RISE Testing appointment
  • Pass a RISE Tier 1 Exam (Math and English) administered by Cleveland Community College
  • Achieve a minimum score of 70% in Math on the RISE Tier 1 Exam
  • Achieve a minimum score of 70% in English on the RISE Tier 1 Exam
  • Provide a hard copy or email test results to Steve Dean ([email protected])
  • Be legally authorized to work permanently in the country the position is located in at the time of application
  • Successfully complete a criminal background check
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen (may be required)

Responsibilities

  • Receive hands-on training from a certified Journeyman in repairing electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment
  • Perform various duties involved in the repair and maintenance of a wide variety of machine tools (e.g., CNC Machining Centers, CNC Punches, Shears, Press Brakes, Punch Presses)
  • Maintain material handling equipment and auxiliary plant equipment (e.g., HVAC equipment, air compressors, electrical and lighting equipment)
  • Perform cleaning and painting tasks
  • Conduct yard work
  • Perform lubricating tasks
  • Execute preventative maintenance
  • Attend formal classroom training in maintenance-related skills
  • Complete all educational requirements within a four-year, 8000-hour apprenticeship period
  • Work across all three shifts
