About The Position

The HVAC & Electrical Technician is responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC/refrigeration and electrical/lighting systems across multiple sites. The role also supports general facility maintenance, preventative maintenance, and minor construction-related repairs to buildings, grounds, and equipment—while ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and excellent customer service. The position encompasses general maintenance, repairs, and preventive maintenance for both owned and subleased properties, following directives from the Facilities Director or immediate supervisor.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration fundamentals, and electrical troubleshooting practices.
  • Ability to use electrical test equipment (e.g., multimeter/clamp meter) and HVAC diagnostic tools safely and accurately.
  • Ability to read and apply wiring diagrams, schematics, and equipment manuals.
  • Strong troubleshooting, prioritization, and time-management skills in a service environment.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical customers clearly and professionally.
  • Ability to work independently, follow procedures, maintain confidentiality, and deliver quality service.
  • Ability to work in mechanical spaces, use ladders, lift/carry typical tools/parts, and perform tasks requiring standing, bending, and climbing.
  • High School Diploma or GED, with a minimum of 5+ years hands on HVAC installation, maintenance, and repair experience.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC mechanical, electrical, and control systems across commercial and/or industrial environments.
  • Proven ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and lead others with minimal supervision.
  • EPA Universal Certification required; additional state or local HVAC licenses preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Install, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC and refrigeration equipment (e.g., air handlers, heat pumps, furnaces, boilers, chillers, compressors, package units, split systems).
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control-related HVAC issues using appropriate test instruments and diagnostic tools.
  • Perform scheduled and routine preventive maintenance (filters, belts, lubrication, coil cleaning, drains, condensate systems, operational checks).
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, equipment manuals, and basic building plans to complete repairs and installations correctly.
  • Respond to service calls and restore systems promptly to minimize downtime and disruption.
  • Handle refrigerants safely and in accordance with applicable regulations and internal procedures (recovery, charging, leak checking, documentation as required).
  • Recommend repairs and practical upgrades that improve reliability, performance, and energy efficiency.
  • Install, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and lighting systems supporting facility operations.
  • Test circuits, components, and devices using appropriate test equipment; identify faults and complete repairs safely.
  • Troubleshoot low-voltage and line-voltage controls associated with building systems and HVAC equipment.
  • Repair/replace common electrical devices (lamps/ballasts/drivers, switches, receptacles, breakers as permitted, lighting controls, small equipment feeds).
  • Ensure proper labeling, basic documentation, and safe restoration of power following repairs.
  • Complete assigned PM work orders on schedule and document findings, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
  • Conduct routine site walk-throughs/monthly inspections as assigned to identify safety risks and maintenance needs.
  • Support basic environmental comfort checks (temperature, airflow, humidity concerns) and assist with investigation of facility complaints related to HVAC/electrical performance.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures, including lockout/tagout, PPE requirements, ladder safety, and safe tool use.
  • Perform work in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and internal guidelines.
  • Maintain work areas in a clean, safe condition; report hazards, near misses, and incidents promptly.
  • Support life-safety readiness (reporting deficiencies, assisting with drills as assigned).
  • Accurately complete work orders, service reports, inspection forms, and PM logs in the WorxHub.
  • Communicate clearly with site contacts regarding status, repairs needed, parts required, and expected timelines.
  • Coordinate access to mechanical/electrical rooms and maintain professional interactions with staff, providers, visitors, contractors, and vendors.
  • Coordinate with vendors/contractors as directed (scheduling, escorting, reviewing scope, sharing site conditions, confirming completion).
  • Provide input on parts/materials needed for assigned repairs.
  • Perform facility repairs related to maintaining operations
  • Support office moves and meeting room setup/tear-down as assigned.
