About The Position

Georgia Power's Network Underground Services (NUS) plays an integral part in Georgia's economy by providing construction & maintenance services for the network underground electrical systems. NUS serves high-profile customers such as high-rise buildings, hospitals, government agencies, and large businesses across Georgia. This Apprentice Ductline Mechanic (ADLM) position is in Atlanta, GA, and requires the ability to work from the Atlanta office and sometimes surrounding areas. This role is essential for progression through the Apprentice Ductline Mechanic Development Program. All candidates must be available to work within a certain distance of their assigned operating headquarters upon hire, and no relocation assistance is available. The ADLM will assist with the construction & maintenance of network underground systems and other hi-rely distribution systems. You will learn the construction and maintenance activities associated with these systems, as well as operating procedures for all equipment involved, including cranes, large dump trucks, and excavating equipment. The ability to work in enclosed spaces such as manholes, vaults & tunnels, and deep excavations requiring proper shoring is critical. The primary focus of the training will be on safely performing all tasks while providing a quality product efficiently.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Basic mechanical and electrical aptitude or background.
  • Ability to work on our system in enclosed spaces such as manholes, vaults & tunnels where entry requires access by ladders.
  • Ability to work in deep excavations requiring proper shoring.
  • Ability to take instruction, direction and translate into actions.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work in a team environment.
  • Exhibited safe work practices as evidenced by a history of working accident free and injury free.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Must CURRENTLY weigh (and maintain their body weight) AT or BELOW 270 pounds - fully dressed including steel-toed work boots and hardhat.
  • Must be able to lift and drag equipment weighing 50-pounds or more.
  • Must be able to frequently work in extreme weather conditions throughout the entire year (heat, cold, rain, snow/ice, etc.).
  • Must be available for "call out" duties which will require being available and accessible in times of Storm emergencies at least 50% of the times requested, including overnight and out of state travel.
  • Must successfully meet requirements for a Pre-Employment (DOT) physical exam approved by our company physician.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience in construction, heavy industrial maintenance, utility, military and/or electrical experience is preferred.
  • Experience working outdoors, with heavy equipment/machinery, heavy load rigging/lifting, emergency responders, commercial truck driving, and/or farming is a plus.
  • Candidates who have Network Underground experience with the installation & construction of the infrastructure are strongly desired.
  • Candidates who have military experience is a plus.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and knowledge of hand tools.
  • Proven ability to read, understand & follow procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Demonstrated strong customer service skills.
  • Valid CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) - Class A OR Valid CDL Learners Permit OR If candidate is military - obtain a Georgia CDL Permit Waiver.
  • If candidate currently possesses a CDL Permit, candidate must be able to attain a CDL - Class A within 6 months of hire date.
  • Any candidate who holds a current CDL License will require full verification with current & past employers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the construction & maintenance of the network underground systems and other hi-rely distribution systems across the state of Georgia.
  • Learn construction and maintenance activities associated with Network & Hi-rely Distribution systems.
  • Learn operating procedures for all equipment involved in the process, including cranes, large dump trucks and excavating equipment.
  • Work on the system in enclosed spaces such as manholes, vaults & tunnels where entry requires access by ladders.
  • Work in deep excavations requiring proper shoring.
  • Learn the installation of precast network manholes, precast network vaults, and bay walls (brick/block/concrete).
  • Learn to remove/strip concrete from energized ductlines.
  • Learn to remove/install vault & manhole roofs.
  • Perform physically demanding activities while working outside in all weather conditions and elements.
  • Be available for "call out" duties, requiring availability and accessibility during storm emergencies at least 50% of the times requested, including overnight and out-of-state travel.
  • Work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

  • Current starting pay for ALL NEW HIRES is $6,458/month or approximately $37.26/hour.
