About The Position

Georgia Power's Network Underground Services (NUS) plays an integral part in Georgia's economy, providing construction & maintenance services for network underground electrical systems across the state. NUS serves high-profile customers with highly reliable electric service. This role is part of the Ductline Journeyman Development Program, an extensive training program combining skills training, classroom training, and on-the-job training over two years, leading to the position of Journeyman Ductline Mechanic. The Apprentice Ductline Mechanic (ADLM) will assist with the construction and maintenance of network underground systems and other hi-rely distribution systems. Responsibilities include learning construction and maintenance activities, operating procedures for equipment like cranes, large dump trucks, and excavating equipment, and working in enclosed spaces such as manholes, vaults, and tunnels, as well as deep excavations. Safety and efficiency are paramount. Training covers the installation of precast network manholes and vaults, bay walls, and the removal/installation of concrete from energized ductlines and vault/manhole roofs.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Basic mechanical and electrical aptitude or background.
  • Ability to work on our system in enclosed spaces such as manholes, vaults & tunnels where entry requires access by ladders.
  • Ability to work in deep excavations requiring proper shoring.
  • Ability to take instruction, direction and translate into actions.
  • Able to perform physically demanding activities while working outside in all weather conditions and elements.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work in a team environment.

  • Exhibited safe work practices as evidenced by a history of working accident free and injury free.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Valid CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) - Class A OR Valid CDL Learners Permit OR If candidate is military - obtain a Georgia CDL Permit Waiver.
  • If candidate currently possess a CDL Permit, candidate must be able to attain a CDL - Class A within 6 months of hire date.
  • Candidate must CURRENTLY weigh (and maintain their body weight) AT or BELOW 270 pounds -fully dressed including steel-toed work boots and hardhat.
  • Candidates must be able to lift and drag equipment weighing 50-pounds or more.
  • Candidates must be able to frequently work in extreme weather conditions throughout the entire year. All climatic conditions will be experienced in these positions (heat, cold, rain, snow/ice, etc.).
  • Candidates must be available for "call out" duties which will require being available and accessible in times of Storm emergencies at least 50% of the times requested, including overnight and out of state travel.
  • Must successfully meet requirements for a Pre-Employment (DOT) physical exam approved by our company physician.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience in construction, heavy industrial maintenance, utility, military and/or electrical experience is preferred.
  • Experience working outdoors, with heavy equipment/machinery, heavy load rigging/lifting, emergency responders, commercial truck driving, and/or farming is a plus.
  • Candidates who have Network Underground experience with the installation & construction of the infrastructure are strongly desired.
  • Candidates who have military experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the construction & maintenance of the network underground systems and other hi-rely distribution systems across the state of Georgia.
  • Learn the construction and maintenance activities associated with network & hi-rely distribution systems.
  • Learn operating procedures for all equipment involved in the process, including cranes, large dump trucks and excavating equipment.
  • Work on the system in enclosed spaces such as manholes, vaults & tunnels where entry requires access by ladders.
  • Work in deep excavations requiring proper shoring.
  • Safely perform every task while providing a quality product in an efficient manner.
  • Receive training in the installation of precast network manholes, precast network vaults, bay walls (brick/block/concrete).
  • Be trained to remove/strip concrete from energized ductlines and how to remove/install vault & manhole roofs.
