Apprentice Diesel Tech-Mechanic
About The Position
Provide accurate and efficient service to customers by troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing heavy-duty trucks and trailers within company and industry standards. The role involves performing diagnostic tests, interpreting results, developing repair plans, and communicating those plans to the Service Advisor. Repairs must be completed safely, effectively, and efficiently while maintaining a clean and safe work environment. The technician also recommends other TravelCenters of America services during customer inspection reviews and helps maintain the safety of customers and employees. This position is suited to a dedicated team member who is willing to expand their professional knowledge through education and training. It requires the ability to work independently, flexible hours that may include nights, weekends, and some holidays, and work in both interior and exterior conditions. Candidates must meet the physical requirements of the role, with or without accommodation, and invest in their own tools.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Graduate of an acceptable trade school or manufacturer’s technical school, or previous mechanic experience.
- Willingness to expand professional knowledge through education and training programs.
- Ability to work unsupervised.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and some holidays.
- Ability to work in interior and exterior conditions.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job, with or without accommodation.
- Investment in own tools.

Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair heavy-duty trucks and trailers.
- Perform diagnostic testing and interpret results.
- Develop a repair plan and communicate it to the Service Advisor.
- Repair malfunctioning parts and other mechanical or electrical equipment.
- Complete repairs safely, effectively, and efficiently.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Recommend other TA services to customers as part of the inspection review process.
- Help maintain the safety of customers and employees.
