About The Position

The Apprentice 1 performs maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on heavy equipment, including equipment such as forklifts and man lifts. The role reads electrical and hydraulic schematics, follows OEM specifications for inspections and preventive maintenance, responds to customer equipment requests, and maintains accurate records. The position also supports safety compliance, coworker training, communication across internal and external contacts, special projects, and cross-training or assistance in other departments as needed.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
At least 5 years of experience troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining heavy equipment such as forklifts and man lifts.
Mechanical aptitude.
Basic computer skills.
Possess basic personal tools.
Ability to read electrical and hydraulic schematics.
Ability and comfort working at heights up to 100 feet.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability and willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Ability to work around loud machinery.
Basic knowledge of SPC fundamentals.
Ability to understand and follow company and railroad safety policies.

Responsibilities

Repair and maintain heavy equipment.
Troubleshoot and repair systems and components as required.
Maintain accurate records as required.
Perform detailed equipment inspections and preventive maintenance following OEM specifications.
Respond to customer-related equipment requests.
Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations, policies, and procedures, supporting a goal of zero incidents and injuries.
Assist in delivering required training so coworkers have the skills to perform their jobs properly and safely.
Communicate consistently about activities to appropriate internal and external individuals and follow company-wide policies to reduce or eliminate liability exposure.
Complete special projects or other assigned work.
Be willing to cross-train and assist in other departments as required.
