About The Position

Applications Engineers serve as trusted technical advisors, helping customers understand and maximize their use of ZEISS hardware and software systems. Support is provided through structured and customized training, remote and on-site assistance, programming, and measurement services. The role requires professionalism, technical expertise, and a customer-centric approach to ensure client success and satisfaction. The position is based in Wixom, Michigan, and requires the employee to live in Michigan and be able to commute to the Wixom location. The schedule is hybrid, with three days in the office and two days remote. Travel may be up to 50%.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
2–5 years of experience.
Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings for dimensional control requirements.
Proficiency in 3D mathematics and experience programming in modern scientific computing languages.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical concepts to small and large audiences.
Ability to identify, articulate, and resolve technical challenges, including creating concise technical reports.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with customers and internal teams.
Experience in training or teaching, with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts and demonstrate product benefits.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently to develop solutions for customer challenges.
Self-motivated learning ability to independently acquire knowledge to address customer needs.
Valid driver’s license.
Must live in Michigan and be commutable to the Wixom location.

Nice To Haves

IT experience with server administration, networking, cloud computing, data analysis and reporting, SQL/database management, or system integration.
Experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC) and quality data.
Understanding of manufacturing and metrology processes.

Responsibilities

Deliver standard in-house, on-site, and customized client-specific training on ZEISS Industrial Metrology systems.
Collaborate with internal teams to develop and maintain an effective, up-to-date training curriculum.
Provide remote and on-site technical support for ZEISS Industrial Metrology systems and respond to software and applications inquiries.
Assess and prioritize customer issues based on urgency and impact.
Support internal ZEISS teams with software and application expertise.
Assist with software and system testing to support product development.
Accurately document and report software performance issues.
Deliver after-sales technical support to support successful system implementation.
Provide foundational support for Windows operating systems, networking and connectivity, and database management issues.
Respond to quotation requests by analyzing customer requirements and estimating project completion time.
Prepare and maintain project data.
Implement quoted application solutions remotely, in the classroom, or on-site.
