About The Position

Motorola Solutions, a global leader in public safety and enterprise security solutions, is seeking an Applications Engineer-I to join its subsidiary, Silvus Technologies. Silvus Technologies specializes in advanced MANET and MIMO communications systems, reshaping mesh network technology for mission-critical applications. This role is part of the Sales Engineering team and will focus on conducting technical activities related to applications/solutions engineering, customer support, and sales support. The Applications Engineer will work closely with customers and the Sales team to drive product development, define and test new products and features, provide technical support, perform technical analysis and systems integration, and engineer complete solutions. This position involves collaboration with internal Engineering teams and requires up to 25% travel, both domestic and international. The role is based in Irvine, CA, with a hybrid schedule, including time spent at Silvus Technologies' headquarters in West Los Angeles, CA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related technical field.
  • Proficiency with instruments such as spectrum analyzers, multimeters, signal generators, and other radio frequency and data network test equipment and testing.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, multitask, and effectively interact with cross-functional teams and customers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attentiveness to details.
  • Proficiency with PC office applications and mobile devices.
  • Willingness to travel and work at customer sites.
  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen, or U.S. Permanent Resident) due to clients under U.S. federal contracts.
  • All employment is contingent upon the successful clearance of a background check and drug test.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with TCP/IP protocol and networking.
  • Experience with operating and testing IP radios/modems.
  • Knowledge of wireless communication systems, radio frequency signal propagation, and digital communication technologies.
  • Experience with testing embedded radio communication systems.
  • Familiarity with Linux.
  • Proficiency with programming languages such as Python or C/C++.

Responsibilities

  • Design and test complete solutions that solve unique technical problems.
  • Define new products and features to fill gaps and perform product evaluations and field trials for new product features and accessories.
  • Provide comprehensive support to customers and the sales team through troubleshooting, system integration engineering, product recommendations, and technical analysis via phone, online, and in person.
  • Participate in an off-hour, on-call support rotation to address critical customer escalations.
  • Work individually and with Engineering teams to support requests via in-house or through field testing and validation.
  • Test and harden existing features through firmware and hardware changes in realistic applications.
  • Support the Sales Engineering team by helping prepare for demonstrations, training, testing, or recreating bugs and issues seen in the field.
  • Create and maintain customer-facing documents and content including manuals, guides, videos, application notes, etc.
  • Oversee and assist the RMA and Loaner teams by providing guidance, equipment recommendations, and vetting customer requests.
  • Travel up to 25% to provide in-person engineering support to customers and the sales team, including demos, troubleshooting, system integration, and training.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
