About The Position

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) at UC Irvine is seeking an Application Programmer to support the Enterprise Student Management Systems (ESMS) sub-division. ESMS provides operational, application development, and maintenance support for critical systems used by six large business units: Financial Aid and Scholarships, Financial Services, Graduate Division, Office of the Registrar, Summer Session, and Undergraduate Admissions. This role will work under the general supervision of the Manager, Financial Aid IT, applying expertise to medium-sized projects or portions of large projects with moderate scope and complexity. The primary technology stack includes Oracle Student Financial Planning (SFP) Cloud Service, leveraging Java, Groovy, and SQL. Secondary technologies include Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC), Oracle Analytics Publisher (OAP) / Oracle BI Publisher (BIP), Oracle Application Express (APEX), T-SQL, PL/SQL, MVC, RESTful, and shell scripting. Supporting tools include GitHub, Jenkins, ASG Zena, and MFT.

Requirements

Advanced skills in software design, modification, implementation, and deployment, including object-oriented programming concepts, with hands-on experience in Java and Groovy, and SQL.
Intermediate knowledge of secure software development.
Experienced developing applications following secure coding and data protection best practices and norms.
Demonstrated ability to understand functional needs and how systems can support those needs.
Demonstrated ability to develop conversion and system implementation plans.
Demonstrated ability to interface with management on a regular basis.
Demonstrated ability to contribute technical narrative to grant proposals.
Thorough experience with identification and use of code libraries and open-source forums.
Experience with planning for deployment and creation of feedback mechanisms.
Demonstrated software repository skills.
Demonstrated testing and test planning skills.
Thorough experience with common programming tools.
Demonstrated ability to follow software specifications and a formal Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated broad problem solving skills.
Thorough experience with databases design concepts, data modeling, and MS T-SQL.
Working knowledge of version control software for branching, merging.

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
3-5 years of experience with software development, Object-Oriented Design and Programming, SQL development experience and SDLC methodologies (Waterfall, Agile, Scrum) utilizing Java, Groovy, and SQL.
