About The Position

Advantest Interconnect Solutions (AIS) has an Applications Engineering (SI/PI) position. Application engineers are responsible for the design and development of ATE (automatic test equipment) test interface solutions. This is an opportunity for the successful candidate to experience the entire technical cycle from concept through validation, and the role of supporting our customer's demanding highspeed digital and RF test requirements. The candidate will optimize systems for high frequency and high-power performances, simulate and model the behavior and validate the products performance to ensure compliance and correlation with Simulations. This is a customer facing role that relies on your deep technical skills and your ability to conceive a plan, schedule, organize and optimize engineering systems. You will engage with customer on a technical level and will work collaboratively with other Advantest technology groups, Business Units, partners, and suppliers to develop and integrate advanced electrical and mechanical technologies into Advantest's automated test systems. You will be working with a highly skilled cross functional team that will assist you and leverage your expertise.

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering; MS in Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • BS + 4 years min or MS + 2 years min
  • Expert level knowledge of High speed signal and Power integrity requirements and design at PCB, Package and system level.
  • Expert level knowledge of High speed channel simulation tools such as ADS, HFSS, CST
  • Expert level knowledge of S-parameter modeling and simulations
  • Expert level knowledge of High speed data communications (eye diagrams, BER testing)
  • Expert level knowledge of PDN/Power Integrity (AC and DC) Design and Analysis at PCB and package level for high performance compute, AI and Graphics devices (featuring high power consumption and pin count).
  • Experienced with use of relevant lab instruments (high speed oscilloscopes, VNA, TDR, spectrum analyzer, Protocol Analyzers.
  • Practical knowledge of PCB construction, properties, and effect of PCB materials on signal quality.
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team (HW, ASIC, SW and Mechanical design engineers)
  • Strong analysis and synthesis capabilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, alongside strong interpersonal and organizational abilities.
  • Competent in multitasking, prioritizing, and managing time effectively
  • Demonstrate skill with schematic capture and layout tools, and high-speed layout practices.
  • Strong knowledge of PCB manufacturing
  • Demonstrate troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
  • Work with minimum supervision
  • Ability to travel as required.

Responsibilities

  • Translate customer test requirements related to device performance and create strategy for performance optimizations
  • Understand the tester instrumentation and DUT test requirements
  • Define PCB materials and layout rules for high speed and RF circuits
  • Own prototype functional checkout and validation
  • Build productive relationships with internal and external business partners
  • Develop and implement SI and PI (PDN, DC and AC) designs for new semiconductor test systems and components, including PCBA, Load Board and sockets. Target devices include high performance computing, AI and graphics devices with data rates of 64Gb/s and beyond.
  • Perform Signal Integrity and Power Integrity design and analysis of entire channel: including package, sockets, interposers, PCBA load board, cables.
  • Interpret functional test results and present findings to customers
  • Provide guidance to lower-level staff, recommending and designing innovations, improved methods, tools, and processes.
  • Act as a customer contact on selective technical matters and analyze customer requirements.
  • Identify risk areas and optimization opportunities.
  • Take on project ownership and management; determine technology requirements and develop strategies.
