About The Position

Amphenol RF, a global leader in coaxial interconnect products, is seeking an Applications Engineer 2 to provide technical guidance to customers, sales teams, program managers, and internal stakeholders. This is a fully remote position, ideally for a candidate residing in the Detroit, MI Metropolitan area. The role involves driving new product introduction (NPI) activities, supporting sales leads, acting as an engineering resource in the sales cycle, and traveling up to 50% to customer sites. The position requires overseeing project delivery, researching market conditions, determining optimal manufacturing locations, driving engineering changes, building cost models, and resolving technical issues. The Applications Engineer 2 will foster continuous improvement and typically works with minimal supervision, potentially mentoring junior personnel. The role may also require remote work as needed by the assigned territory.

Requirements

  • Automotive industry experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Two (2) to six (6) years of related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Drive NPI activities through customer interactions within a defined geographic region (territory) and key accounts to drive growth.
  • Follow up on sales leads requiring technical assistance generated for the assigned territory.
  • Act as an engineering resource on the front-end team to lead technical aspects of the sales cycle.
  • Travel to customer sites as needed to support existing business and win new opportunities (up to 50%).
  • Oversee the delivery of projects on-time and on schedule with best–in-class quality with the design and development of application specific connector solutions.
  • Research and analyze environment and competitive conditions, customer needs, and market trends and develop plans to adapt and succeed in a changing environment.
  • Determine optimum manufacturing location (prototype / production) based on customer logistics / factory capabilities in co-ordination with global operations team.
  • Drive Engineering Change Orders and New Product Releases.
  • Utilize global design engineering resources to increase throughput and maximize efficiency.
  • Build cost models for new product designs by working with manufacturing and external vendors.
  • Assist in publishing regional Engineering Action Reports with updates to drive weekly meeting agenda.
  • Maintain organized project files.
  • Drive rapid resolution of technical quality and production issues related to product consumed within the region.
  • Assist in value engineering initiatives.
  • Foster an environment of continuous improvement within the department and organization.
  • Usually works with minimum supervision, conferring with superior on unusual matters with an appreciable latitude for un-reviewed action or decision.
  • May be assisted by Entry/Junior or Intermediate Level personnel.
  • Position may be required to work remote / off site as needed by assigned territory.
  • Any other duties as assigned.
