About The Position

The Department of Revenue, Tax Division is recruiting for an Application Developer 1/2/3 in Anchorage or Juneau. This position supports the Tax Division’s IT applications by maintaining, updating, and enhancing complex, inter-related systems that support statewide revenue programs. The role involves designing, coding, testing, debugging, and documenting software applications using technologies such as C#, SQL, ASP.NET, JavaScript, HTML, and Power Apps. The developer will work closely with senior developers, business analysts, and division staff to gather requirements, understand business workflows, participate in design discussions, and ensure successful implementation of solutions. Responsibilities also include assisting in daily system maintenance, monitoring system performance, responding to outages, and ensuring the reliability, security, and integrity of Tax Division applications. Participation in pair-programming, code reviews, project development, application testing, and documentation efforts that support continuous improvement of mission-critical systems is expected. The department has a strong preference for candidates with working knowledge of Microsoft development ecosystem, including C#, SQL, SQL Server, Visual Studio, Azure, Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps, and SharePoint Online.

Requirements

  • Software Development- Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools for designing, developing, and testing software in a given environment.
  • Requirements Analysis- Identifies, analyzes, and translates business needs into technical requirements that guide system design, development, and implementation.
  • Technical Problem Solving- Troubleshoots, diagnoses, analyzes, and identifies system malfunctions to determine the source and cause of the problem.

  • Computers and Electronics: Knowledge of electric circuit boards, processors, chips, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.

  • Computer Languages: Knowledge of computer languages and their applications to enable a system to perform specific functions and skill in designing, writing, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, and maintaining the source code of computer programs.
