API Solutions Architect

Bright Vision Technologies•Highlands Ranch, CO
•$100,000 - $150,000•Remote

About The Position

Bright Vision Technologies is seeking an API Solutions Architect to lead the design and evolution of large-scale microservices ecosystems built on modern container platforms and cloud-native technology stacks. The role calls for expertise in service decomposition, domain-driven design, distributed data management, resilience, observability, and security at scale. The architect will provide hands-on leadership across complex transformations, guide when and how to adopt microservices, and help keep the resulting systems maintainable over the long term. This is a full-time, direct W2 position that is 100% remote in the United States, with an annual salary range of $100,000–$150,000. The position includes defining architecture standards and service boundaries, modernizing legacy monoliths, designing service communication and API governance, and building resilient distributed systems. The architect will also guide platform capabilities, performance and scalability, CI/CD and deployment practices, observability, and security, while mentoring engineering teams and leading architecture reviews. Candidates should have a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, at least eight years of software engineering experience, and substantial architecture and microservices experience. Bright Vision Technologies cannot sponsor new H-1B visa petitions; U.S. citizens, Green Card holders, EAD holders, and H-1B transfer candidates are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • Eight or more years of software engineering experience, with several years in architecture roles.
  • Deep expertise in microservices design, domain-driven design, and distributed systems patterns.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes, container orchestration, and service mesh technologies.
  • Proficiency in at least one major backend language such as Java, Go, or C#.
  • Strong understanding of API design, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous messaging.
  • Experience operating high-traffic, latency-sensitive systems in production.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms and managed services across at least one major provider.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead architecture initiatives spanning multiple teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with platform engineering and internal developer platform construction.
  • Familiarity with Istio, Linkerd, Envoy, or comparable service mesh technologies.
  • Exposure to FinOps practices and cloud cost optimization at scale.
  • Public speaking, open-source contributions, or published technical writing.
  • Experience in regulated industries with strict compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Define microservices architecture standards, service boundaries, and decomposition strategies aligned with domain-driven design principles.
  • Lead modernization of legacy monoliths into well-bounded, independently deployable services with clear ownership.
  • Design service communication patterns using REST, gRPC, asynchronous messaging, and event streaming as appropriate.
  • Establish API contracts, schema governance, and versioning strategies that support safe service evolution.
  • Architect resilient distributed systems using patterns such as circuit breakers, retries, bulkheads, and graceful degradation.
  • Define data ownership models, transactional boundaries, and patterns such as outbox, saga, and CQRS where appropriate.
  • Lead the design of platform capabilities, including service mesh, API gateway, identity propagation, and shared observability.
  • Drive performance engineering, capacity planning, and scalability analysis across critical service domains.
  • Establish CI/CD, testing, and deployment standards optimized for high-frequency, low-risk service releases.
  • Define observability standards, including structured logging, distributed tracing, and SLO-driven monitoring.
  • Collaborate with security teams to embed zero-trust principles, secrets management, and runtime protection.
  • Mentor engineers and tech leads on microservices best practices and avoiding anti-patterns.
  • Lead architecture reviews and provide guidance on service design proposals across multiple teams.
  • Continuously evaluate emerging cloud-native technologies for adoption based on maturity and strategic fit.
