Anti-Trafficking Translator Volunteer
About The Position
Love Justice International (LJI) is a Christian nonprofit dedicated to combating human trafficking by disrupting it in transit. They focus on intercepting potential victims at transportation hubs and gathering information to aid law enforcement. This volunteer role is crucial for ensuring accurate translation of important documents, such as forms, instruction manuals, and training materials, into seven target languages (Amharic, Bangla, French, Hindi, Indonesian, Nepali, and Portuguese). The national staff rely on these translations for understanding requirements and forms, making this a vital position within the organization. The Volunteer Translator will report to the Installation and Forms Specialist and is expected to commit a minimum of 100 hours.
Requirements
- Mature Christian faith and agreement with our Global Value to “Abide in Christ”.
- Knowledge, understanding, and agreement with how the Christian Gospel ministers to “the least of these” (Matthew 25:40) and guides us in our mission.
- Agreement with our Core Value “Be the Kingdom” (in mission execution and personal conduct).
- Acknowledgment of our Statement of Faith.
- Passion for justice and advocacy on behalf of vulnerable populations.
- University professor in target language or 5+ years experience with professional translation preferred.
- High standard of personal discipline.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and one of our target languages.
- Strong experience of translation work.
- Strong proficiency with Google Docs in English and target language.
- Willing and able to pass language quiz.
- Internet access.
- Demonstrated ability to use AI tools to improve your own work—drafting, research, analysis, and redesigning workflows—with the discernment to verify outputs, catch errors, and recognize where AI is not appropriate.
- Volunteer use AI within the boundaries of LJI's AI Tool Usage Policy.
Responsibilities
- Complete multiple translation projects in one of our target languages.
- Test multiple potential processes and procedures, and then provide feedback to assist the Installation and Forms Specialist with building a robust translation program.
- Attend translation meetings to answer questions and make corrections to translation work as needed.
