About The Position

This position provides assistance with duties in the Meat Lab and with the Cowboy Branded Meats' program as needed. The role involves supporting the meat laboratory manager with daily operations of a state-inspected meat processing plant, including slaughter, fabrication, and processing of meat animals. Responsibilities also include cleaning and sanitation of the plant, and supporting teaching, research, and extension activities. Emphasis will be placed on post-operation duties, carcass fabrication, and processing. The job requires a willingness to learn and think while working, good hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and the strength to safely and properly process meat. The ability to learn the safe operation of tools and equipment used in meat processing is also necessary. Physical requirements include lifting 35lbs 50% of the time, lifting 50lbs 30% of the time, and lifting 75lbs or greater 20% of the time, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled student at UW.
  • Must be eligible, have received and accepted work study award through Student Financial Aid for the applicable semester and/or academic year.
  • Reliable, responsible and on-time.
  • Hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and strength to safely and properly process meat.
  • Ability to learn safe operation of tools and equipment used in meat processing.
  • Lift 35lbs 50% of the time, lift 50lbs 30% of the time, lift 75lbs or greater 20% of the time with or without reasonable accommodation.
