About The Position

Nova Scotia Health is seeking a full-time Anesthesiologist with Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification to join the collegial and supportive team at Valley Regional Hospital (VRH) in Kentville, Nova Scotia. VRH is a 137-bed regional hospital serving as a major surgical referral center for over 200,000 patients in the Western Health Zone. The group provides anesthetic services for over 6,000 operating room cases annually and supports an obstetrical unit with approximately 750 deliveries per year, operating five operating rooms daily.

Requirements

Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS).
Certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).
Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA), or proof of alternative coverage.

Responsibilities

Provide care and coordination of community-based care, and secondary and tertiary level health care.
Participate in quality improvement and evaluation activities.
Provide anesthesia at VRH for a variety of surgical services including: general surgery, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology, urology and ENT. There is some care of healthy, low risk pediatric patients.
Participate in our preoperative assessment clinic and acute pain service.
Participate fully in on call coverage (overnight and weekends).
Participate in medical student and resident education.
Opportunities exist for those interested in providing ICU coverage.
Provide support to the Western Zone if required, which includes day-time coverage and occasional overnight/weekend coverage.
Responsible to the Zone Anesthesia Department Head for their professional responsibilities and quality of practice.
Operate within the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of Nova Scotia Health Authority.
